What we need is a strong half back [icombination[/i that works together. You can buy the best halves in the world, but they don't necessarily gel.
We are so quick to criticize British players for a couple of below par or inconsistent games, yet we think and Australian is almost infallible and [ialways[/i the answer, despite the fact that they'll leave us in two to three years time back exactly where we started looking for the next great answer to take us to the next level.
Thorman and Horne look like a good combination. The team can grow around them. If you'd given me our position now last year, I would have bitten your hand off.
Lets stick to developing what we've got guys and stop looking for magic answers to why we played under-par in a couple of games.'"
Fair point, But when was the last time Hull have produced a quality 7 ?

| I think we have sorely missed the influence on the field of such as Cooke and Swain to be honest !! little in the way of true direction since then!!

I agree with this and what both those players had in common in relation to our club was that (while they were here!) they had been in post for many years. Whilst both clearly liked to lead on the field, having a good quality seven is not always about shouting orders. Its also about knowing your half and understanding what plays he'll produce so other players can be on the receiving end- so with Cooke for instance the centres would be looking for the cut out pass. That only comes with time, and that's why I said earlier we need to give this new combination at six and seven time for the team to gel around it and understand the plays on the field in a more intuitive way so everyone is prepared and in the right position for their execution.

| The fact of the matter is we have been saying this for years. We have ALL being saying we need a scrum half this entire century.
The simple fact of the matter is the ones that hold the purse strings have so far failed to recognise that. We spend a fortune on over the hill Aussie wingers. Back rowers who we play as props. Put faith in local lads who are simply not good enough etc etc etc
The time has to come when the powers that be spend some hard earned cash on a decent top quality scrum half. No half measures. No make do playes , just a genuine number 7 who can play week in week out.
Utility players in a specialist role such as this are not good enough. Its not as if SL is over run with quality SH I can only think of Long who is anywhere near quality. Perhaps thats the problem with the English game.
We won the cup in 05, reached GF in 06 and have failed to recruit anyone of any quality in the one place we have needed someone. If we can't do this when we are appearing in finals how the hell are we going to do that after two seasons ( as its looking at the moment ) in the bottom 4 of the league.
JS stated that we had too many forwards when he arrived and yet all we have recruited is forwards ( though two have got lost on the way over)
Its now time to have a SH and while we are at it a completely new back line with two pacey centres and a specialist Full Back. No more utility players just specialists.
Its now only April 10th the season is all but over as we are not going to compete to the level that out A grade and 14000 average crowds deserve so its time to tell the deadwood they are not wanted for next year and start to recruit now. yes I know we can't approach players legally yet, but we better be sounding out at least 6 quality players for next year.

I would, we'd make a big chunk of that back in shirt sales and stopping the exodus of season pass holders next season anyway

Thing is though if Saints ( Long and Jailbird ) and Leeds ( Dwarf and McGuire ) don't have him Where are the big clubs in the UK assuming he ever wanted to come here. ?
That said I doubt he would want to come.
