| Quote: weaver93 "Brilliant analogy of why Shaul, is not suited to our style of play.
He is more suited to the 80/90's, whereby the Ball playing 13 would create gaps in the middle, and his support play would be more effective.
This is one of the reasons,I feel we need a coach from outside Hull.
For mine, he was an automatic pick, If the coach is from Hull, sometimes the team structure, should take precedence ahead of any player's birthplace.'" I'm not saying he is anywhere near the level of him but the way Melbourne use Ryan Papenhuyzen should be the blueprint of how to use Shaul if we are sticking with him at 1 because their skillset is so similar.

I’d certainly look at a different role for Shaul.
I’d keep Jake at Full Back and move Shaul up to develop as a Hooker.
His pace would be effective, firstly scooting from the PTB and also having him closer to the off loads to make breaks.
We don’t exploit Jamie enough to back up the forwards. He should be following the breaks made by the forwards, just like we had with Shaun Briscoe, Horne, Schofield and Steve Evans used to do. We have forwards now who are looking to off load and moving Jamie upfield would have him closer to finish those opportunities.

I'm not sure having a hooker who cant pass or tackle is a great idea.

180 games and can't pass or tackle.
Give the guy a break, he won't be playing again for 9 months.

Dont think passing two or three metres from the play the ball is a problem and he would not be tackling one to one as there are normally two or three tackling down the middle.
Well suited to the new modern nine role. You cant cant call it hooker now as it s not relevant

That's what I mean, instead of him pushing up looking for offloads or using his pace cutting back against a sliding defence he is getting a play ready on the flanks where we try to get him into a 3 on 2 situation.

we dont produce many walk ins for our wings.
Any average wing with an overlap will score a try and dont forget we use our wings and centres to bring the ball out of defence something a small guy like Shaul would not be good at.

Shaul is really good at knowing when to 'scoot' when our wingers have got a quick PTB clearing our line and getting at a unorganised defence something which he would get it he was following our forwards up the middle in particular Sao.
Coote and French are polar opposites when it comes to skillset both brilliant fullbacks but their teams play to their strengths something which we fail to do when it comes to Shaul at fullback.

| Naulago Kelly Shaul gone next season
We would have the slowest back line in SL
Combine that with Connor at full back ,
defensively we would get exposed by most teams

| Shaul could play wing for me.
Good under the high ball, can scoot and bring play out from our own half, got pace.
Worth a try and it will inject some pace out wide
