| Quote: Boardwalkempire2 "Hdm reporting has always been too cosy
Going back to the days of dick tingle travelling on the team bus.
It’s all about striking a balance.
If the reporter becomes too critical the club will become more defensive in interviews & access to the club news.
The club, players all know they’ve under performed for whatever reason.
My personal opinion is that the players have lived off the 2 cup wins. The coach to an extent
also cut slack to the players out of loyalty.'"
I don’t know about Richard Tingle being to cozy with his offerings Boardwalk, but I do know he once told me personally, he’d been reporting nearly thirty years, and you only get fifteen for murder. His descriptions of games were far superior than we get now, more descriptive of the actual game, and he summarised extremely well, in a time we’re it was sometimes impossible to travel, but these were the days when journalists reported on matches, and the blame culture of individual players as it is now, was very rare.
The green sports mail, you could relive the game with every pass, every kick, it was an art form, now sadly it’s facebook, emails, and marks out of ten for the last performance, we read WillJackson, who seems to deliver the party line, which Is understandable.
One things for certain this shocking viral killer, as I’ve said before, has surely galvanised the importance of our great game, and how much it means to our particular parish. I’m currently trapped abroad, but on the bright side I’ve not missed a game.

| Well the NRL players have 2 more pay packets then nothing until end of the year/next year..Clubs over here (Wakey an example) are taking advantage of the govt scheme so that will hopefully steady the ship.We are in a much better position than the NRL are, even more so if it’s true the maximum salary over there for 2021 will be $100k ..Even Fox sports are trying to get out of the broadcast deal

What do you mean by we wont trade up?'"
There seemed to be an implication that Shaul, Houghton, Bowden weren't necessarily good enough for our squad. At the same time we have reduced income and already know we were sretched this year financially before a global pandemic. I can probably find a link to AP's comments pre season on this. We don't have a benefactor to underwrite losses. I'm just saying that with such fundamental uncertainty we shouldn't assume we will be in a position to bin off players like Houghton to being better in, nor that the playing budget for 2021 will match that of this year's. There is comment in the media that the sport itself could be under threat. These are worrying time, Will Jackson's player ratings based on a handful of games notwithstanding.

| I suppose it depends how you look at it and what you know, i know Houghtons one of our top earners, the contract after his man of steel award put him up their amongst our top earners.
So with us going all cost effective, based on current performances and the fact hes a top earner, he could well find himself one of the first out the door, especially with A ready made replacement in Johnstone already in the building, who will be on a fraction of what Houghtons earning and has argubally performed better.
Id be interested to learn what Shaul currently earns, as if your quite savvy in the market you could argue Evalds could be a more cost effective and better performing replacement. And lets not forget about Connor Wynne who let nobody down when filling in for Shaul, another who will be on a fraction of what Shaul earns i guess.
Bowden, for me theirs still huge question marks over his fitness, i believe his knee still isnt right, probably reflected in the games hes missing inbetween, another who was awarded a contract not long ago, and wont be on pittance, im currently looking at Jack Brown coming through who i believe has it and wants it, looks like a future Hull captain to me with his attitude on the pitch, and once again you could make an argument could he outperform Bowden if given more gametime, and again on a fraction on Bowdens wage.
Id say were very much in a position to bin off the ones on inflated wages, who have either gone stagnant, or are playing crocked, or who may have question marks over mentality and attitude. And heres the thing we can improve while being cost effective
Il say it again depends how you look at it.

| As a side thought, and forgetting the current global situation, all the succesful sides get their recruitment spot on.
theirs no room for sentiment, its pretty ruthless as soon as a player shows signs of decline in performance or attitude/fitness the shrewd clubs replace them, i think alot are blinded by the club hull mentality and i firmly believe that sentimentality is holding us back
I think Pearson and i have to give Radford credit here, have made some cracking signings, theirs no doubing the ability of Mau, Sao, Savelio, Satae and Fonua as well as others, what we now need to do to reach the next level which is establish ourselfs as a top four club is now improve our judgement/shrewdness on the homegrown Players.
I think we hang onto players too long, and this goes for established players as well as some young players coming through, how can this be rectified answers on a postcard. we d need more depth amd quality coming through from the academy. How do we improve that

agree 100%, a number of players retained because they are Hull lads or played in the CC wins, or both. Improving the academy would start with employing coaches etc. purely on merit, not "local connection".
BUT, there are way more important things than RL right now.

| There are more important things going on......but i dont think that should stop people discussing our club. Do we all fall into silence because of the virus
I for one quite enjoy analysing and giving thought to how our club can improve, or where it could of done better.

No, not at all, it is good to be discussing things for the future.

A very good post - Wynne, Brown, Johnson could be the future of our club and need proper chances to impress and will cost a whole lot less at a time we need to really cut back - Some very big name players could find themselves out of work not only at our club but around the league at the end of this season

Here's my take on the level of RL knowledge and experience this "journalist" has...
...he included Chris Thorman and Martin Aspinwall, under the headline; "Ten of the best to spend only one season at Hull Fc" …
Ill leave it there.

| Good point with the salary cap discretions, will be interesting , probably find away around it as usual, loving how catalans fit Their lot under.
Interestingly whos out of contract for us end of this season?
Definatly some wages against performances that could be trimmed, or improved upon.
