As an aside I thought Dave Woods comments about Tommy 'bomber' Harris were really disparaging and uncalled for. He said that Harris won the award "almost as a sympathy vote", I was really, really annoyed at that as it's hugely disrespectful. I've asked the BBC to get him to explain his comment and make an apology regarding it as it's totally inaccurate and disrespectful in my eyes.'"
Just seen that after watching a replay of the match. Was really a comment well below the belt.
I was at the match and it was well deserved. Harris was taken off battered and concussed with a shoulder injury about 15 mins from the end but had clearly demonstrated great skill, tenacity and courage before departing. Reportedly he had taken the shoulder injury into the match.
Significant that Rocky Turner who captained Wakefield that day later said that Harris thoroughly deserved the LTT for his performance.
Rocky and Tommy a few months later were in the GB team that won the Ashes series in England. Rocky played loose forward in the first game with Johnny Whiteley playing the last 2.
