Trying to pin the penalty for playing an ineligible player on the team not responsible for picking that player nor benefiting in any way from him being played qualifies as completely bonkers in my book. I can see the logic in preventing clubs from strengthening their team for the last few games, in the same way as transfer deadlines work,
but I cannot find any reference to "must have played 3 matches before a deadline date " anywhere on the RFL website.
