| I bet it will be packed out, horses and anything horsey are huge hobbies in our area. Maybe not in the of Hull but head out into the East Riding and there are stables everywhere.

you'd be surprised at how many people who do horsey things are not in the least bit interested in polo, equestrian events yes, Polo, very much in the minority even in the dedicated horse world.
TBF if the pitch is going to be ripped up then it's an ideal time to host it, if they get more than a thousand paying punters I'd be surprised.
The thing I'm curious about is how many people would need to come through so it isn't a loss, or is that another part of Allam's ploy to run the SMC at a paper 'loss' year in year out?
I'd suggest that the little profits in the past and 'losses' of more recent times are entirely due to very effective accounting to the huge benefit of the owners of SMC and certainly no-one else.

So it is going to be another deliberate loss making venture then..no wonder they can't afford to put paint over the rusty bits of the stadium

Has anyone thought about the under pitch heating elements/pipes which l can't think will will be buried very deeply.ponies turning/stopping at speed surely will cause deep pivots, especially after rain

It coped with Michael Weighman so half a dozen horses should be fine.

Yes, a few of us mentioned it on the other Polo thread here:
viewtopic.php?f=34&t=565253&tsmp=1395510925&start=10
Four matches (up to 32 chukkas) on an area a third of the normal size for polo will undoubtedly cause damage to the sub-structure of the ground With free entry, I can't see this as being anything other than loss-making for the SMC. More ammunition for their cause?
I can't really see this as being a great attraction even to the polo fraternity. The space and openness essential for the game to be free-flowing and expansive will be severely confined in the stadium environment. The matches will be stifled and restricted. It'll be a bit like going to a rugby match and finding the players with one hand tied behind their backs playing the width of the pitch not the length.
In much the same way as Allam allowed his squash court to completely ruin one end of the pitch last year in the middle of our season immediately after City's had finished, of course, (why not simply have hosted it in the sports arena, so much more suitable) and as he encourages pitch invasions when it suits, it's a way of sticking 2 fingers up to us and anyone else he perceives as being in his way. He does it to show he can, despite how hypocritical and illogical his actions appear to the observer. As well as making a convenient loss to help prove his point that the SMC is unviable and a burden he manfully bears, the polo event also ticks another box. It helps slake his unquenchable thirst for social acceptance and his quest for upward mobility.

Do you think they should relay the pitch between October and February?
