| I understand from reading the story its not just a case of wear and tear on the pitch but also a problem with the undersoil heating which needs repairing. Maybe this leak and the problems it has caused are the reason why the work could not have been planned further in advance?
The pitch is certainly going to get a lot of hammer between the start of the rugby season and the end of the football season with all these home matches.

| All of this could be solved with a move to Melton, IMO

| It's not the regular re lay. It's a total overhaul. Right down to under soil heating etc. Needs doing. Summer is prime time to do it. We play during the summer. We've rearranged 2 games. Not the end of the world, not ideal but it's for our benefit also. City play considerably more games than us so even if it came to a choice between us or them it would still make more sense to do it during our season. But as said it's a summer job.
It's had a big consultation with independent people. There's no conspiracy here, we play in a stadium with state of the art facilities, they need up keep!

Correct it's a summer job.
But during the summer Tigers don't play considerably more games than us therefore it would have been easier for them to move.
However, IF we have been suitably compensated then don't have a problem with it.
Probably mean i won't to get as many games as usual but that is the consequence of not buying a pass.

| It's a lot easier for us to get to games on a Sunday than a Friday so assuming the rearranged fixtures stay the way they are the club will get £100 from me. More if it's sunny and we need extra refreshments.

| lets not be naïve about this its planned so it doesn't affect city in any way.not early may when they are still playing, not late july august when they may be playing pre season friendlies.if city were playing in a summer and hull started their season in august it would be a late august September repair.

| I wonder when the all-egyptian squash tournament is booked for ?
That always help keep the pitch in good nick.

Seems likely.

For who, though?
Much as I understand that he isn't Mr Popular and this is a messing about, can you imagine the headline if he did hand the SMC over to the council?
'City council to pay £1m for new pitch at the home of Hull FC'.
Or
'City's biggest and best RL club to allow council to invest in 'grassroots development'', more likely in the HDM, but even so.
You're better off with a private company covering these costs, even if you have to jump through a couple of extra hoops.

Fair point, but if I had to arrange this, and I was looking at it objectively, I'd look and see 'I can do this in August, and have two teams have to change fixtures, or I could do it in June, and only have one team to change fixtures'
Doing it out of City's season is a no-brainer, no matter how annoying it may be for us.

| As I understand it this has been going on only since a few days before Christmas.
Digging the pitch up was muted when there were problems with the sub soil in the summer but it was decided that it would not be necessary and the SMC told us that!
The fixtures were agreed by the SMc and both our Club and the RL consulted them before the fixtures were released.
Since then however a major problem has occured with the undersoil heating and there have been leaks etc. and there is still a sub soil problem so the full overhaul which should see the playing surface OK for another 10 years is now necessary.
I don't know if there is any compensation deal in place but Standee is spot on with what he says and it will be financially tough on some.
However for those who travel to all away games at least we will be doing it on lighter nights and in better weather and the bring back Sunday brigade get a couple of Sunday games too. However a series of away games is expensive for the fans but my main fear is that we have a slow start and are struggling a bit in the League thats when you don't want a string of away games in mid season against other potentially struggling Clubs!
Still its got to be done and the vagueries of the Councils deal with the SMC may give them total control but it also means they have to pay all the costs of such work too!
It would never happen at Welton

| No real problem for me aside from the potential issue of having to move a home Challenge Cup Quarter Final.
It's a shame to lose the home games in June, but we're used to it - we didn't play at home last June and only had one home game in June 2011 and 2012.
