Would be strange to say the least if we can't.
Quote: east hull FC fan "See what you mean, why lose out in two positions? One thing I notice is that Heremaia plays a lot closer to the line than Seymour does, I think that's how Gentle wants his seven to be. Seymour looks a broken man.'"
Exactly, it only makes sense to move someone if either they are your best option or you can replace them in their original role with minimal impact, preferably both. IMO Heremaia to half back is neither.
I see what you mean, but I'm still not convinced the quality of his work is good enough. He threw a few poor passes on Saturday and even lined a teammate up for a whack on a few occasions, and the bulk of the time he was just keeping the ball moving along the line with basic passes. It doesn't give us any real benefit, most players should be able to do that (indeed Seymour can), and it's a waste of his talent at hooker.
Agree about Seymour looking broken, he looked in massive need of confidence against Leeds, I thought.

| I personally dont think Seymours as bad as most make out, he just doesnt fit in with our style of play as as happened a few times with S/H's and FC with Jamie Ellis at Cas a recent example who doesnt look a world beater but is doing pretty well for a young lad imo

| He had a chance, didn't play great, Horney is not playing better to keep him out. Harsh, but that's the way it is with a bigger squad, and Gentle has kept his word in that dept. I would have played him instead of Azza at 7 last week, but I don't see him every day at training.

I agree with all your post, but thought I'd pick this part out. It is so annoying, we do this constantly Heremaia took the ball first receiver on Sat, ran laterally for a drop off to Tickle (the old drop off to Ticks routine) this time though, four defenders had lined Ticks up, Heremaia saw this yet STILL dropped it off. We are so rigid and set in what we do. I'm glad Watts is fit for next week, at least his offloads let us be a bit more spontaneous.

It's moronic, and it's one of those things we seem to do regardless of the personnel.

| Your right. It constantly narks me off. I aint no no SL coach but surely our big second rowers should be running wider out at the opposition centres a lot more (with maybe our centres switching to back up on the inside and wingers on the outside).
But no, we still persevere with the little telegraphed drop off pass in the centre of the pitch and run back down the middle straight into the biff of several big forwards and get clobbered.
The only time it seems to work is when we drop off to someone with real pace who can occasionally jink past the tiring forwards down the middle ie. McDonnell, or one of the wingers who has come infield.
Someone like Myler for Wire can pull it off but i'm afraid our halfs just don't have his pace or step.

| Heremaia's acting half game relies on momentum , this requires the forwards to make ground land on their fronts and ptb quickly. That rarely happens and means we're pushed laterally. Houghton has the same issue but is slower with his passing. Watts will give the variation we need hopefully to break up the opposition's defensive pattern and give the acting half more options which should also give more time to the halves. Do that and McDonnell will score plenty of tries off those inside acting half plays that look so pedestrian now.

| Quote: east hull FC fan "Given Gentle's answers to questions about him, it's not a decision made on how well he does defensively or how steady he is in attack. It seems to be that he is unable to implement the style of play or structure Gentle wants, and he feels Horne & Holdsworth are better at that task.
I've defended Seymour, and think he's been criticised unfairly. But Gentle sees him day in day out at training, if he's not up to the job then there's little else you can do.'"
This is the point for me, Gentle see's the players in training and bases his selection on this. Clearly there is an issue there with Seymour and hence he isn't getting picked. I think Seymour is better than the fans give him credit for but he is an easy person to blame. As for Heremaia his best influence on the side is as an impact hooker and we lose something when he plays in the halves.
Personally I would rather Seymour at 7 and Heremaia off the bench but PG knows better than us why he's making the calls he is.

| We should have paid him off before the season started. At least we'd have had his quota and cap space if anyone became available mid-season. I agree with Carl's point about Heremaia being no better in the halves than Seymour, which tends to make me think that he's being kept out for other reasons. Either way, from what I've seen of him in a Hull shirt, I'd not be sorry to see him find alternative employment.

In fairness to him he hasn't done anything wrong over here, other than not playing that well.

| There is no hint whatsoever that Seymour has done anything wrong off the field. Some folk need to wind their necks in a bit. Or one person at least...
