| Anyone who thought there was an atmosphere at the boulevard in the late 80's and the 90's was presumably not around pre the valley parade fire

In Adam we have trust
In peter we have belief
In our team we have pride: |
|
| I've been on here loads of times moaning about lack of singing at kc. What gets me is instead of everyone complaining why not just stand up and sing- whats the worst that could happen. We are the only ones who can change this. As for no singing at the widnes game because of the score-line whats the excuse for the same amount of singing at the wires game.
Tbh I think the atmosphere declined rapidly after the old theepenny came down and think we've not it got back since.
Your correct about the ammount of different songs we had, There was a song for just about every player. We've now got Yemo Yemo, Horney Horney and thats about it pretty crap really init?
Maybe its just a bottle thing and people are scared of looking daft if no-one joined in.
We seem a different animal away from home and sing more than anyone does when they come to us, although alcohol could be the key factor there. I know it is for people on the bus I go on

Cheap and patronizing. People rarely get nostalgic about things that used to be worse.

| Not worried if fans sing or don't sing, the main thing is to get behind the team by cheering
At my age if people want me to sing ,I will go on" Britain Got Talent " ps I don't think so

| Quote: frepneyboy "And some of those days of sub 5000 crowds gave us better atmos than 12000 at the KC.
Singers stood together, there was history and soul at the Boulevard.
Yes the first piece of Threepenny being pulled down for seats ripped a hole in the atmos, but the last wooden bit and its replacement were still special times.
Teams used to hate playing away at Boulevard, it was both "least and most fave ground" in Q&A
Now the KC is fave due to the pitch and facilities.
Yay, we dont put the s up anyone anymore
And as for singing for 80 mins, we didnt. It was longer, the noise would crank up 20 mins pre kick off. (anyone remember "bring on the FC"icon_wink.gif
All we have now is a gimp telling us what stand we are in'"
The opposition didn't like it because of the verbal insults and spital they would have preferred to avoid when entering the field of play.
Back on your singing comment, and I have checked the legals on this, but you are lying

Nonsense. People do that all the time.
Oh - and I actually [idid[/i hear the Hovis music while reading that post, so the question was a genuine one.

| Quote: Raggytash "Totally and utter wrong. Me and all my friends that go now, only go because the Boulevard's atmosphere hooked us in the 90's. We are a minority that would happily play in the lower division if we replicated the 90's atmosphere of the Boulevard. Standing in the reduced 3d stand represented some of the happiest times of my life, and several ex players still speak about it with awe. I remember the game where we sang "Super Siggy's barmy army" for an entire half, and we regularly sang up to 10 different songs, cohesively and in tune(ish). 2 of our group have quit going to the rugby because they realized they went for the 3d's atmosphere as much as to watch the rugby.'"
As I have just pointed out to another poster, you are either lying or you cannot remember back that far.
If standing on the 3d in the 1990 (when we were fairly cack) represent some of the happiest times of your life, you have bigger problems than long term memory disorder.
I have video footage of games in that era and the atmosphere is like graveyard.
Please don't bother replying to this. It would be futile. I and the vast majority who attended the boulevard during the 80's and 90's know you are wrong.

People get nostalgic about fond memories or significant events.
That doesn't mean it used to happen from minute 1-80 or even on a weekly basis.
As I said. Derbies, Leeds (in the later years when they were the main target of venom) and the occasional big game. Certainly not on a weekly basis.

| Was having an how crap is the atmosphere debate with a few friends after sunday's game, for me personally my fondest memories of atmosphere at the boulevard was approx between 76 and 79, the two main factors being hull were coming out of a dark early 70's period and i was a young teenager, i can remember me and my mates getting in threpnee stand a good hour or so before kick off and the singing was already in full swing then!! Great days!. I'm sure theirs still a few on here who reminisce about not having much to say on a monday because of lost voice due to shouting and singing on a sunday!.

No arguements with that time period and you could extend that up to about 1985 when we were still competitive.
After that it virtually dropped off a cliff edge

It's the old ex-player theory, the longer it is since they played, the better they get, because it's mainly the good things you remember. That doesn't mean that only the good times existed. The atmosphere at the Boulevard was as up and down as most grounds, it's just the level of the highs and the attachment to them that warps memory into thinking it was always like that. I started going a little before the Sharks days and at times the atmosphere was as dire as I've ever known at a rugby league game, but then at other times it really felt special. It's the nature of sport.
I remember games where pretty much the only sounds I heard were the people around me slagging off Hunte/Seru/AN Other, which is just as it is now.

| I'd say the McAlpine incident is the single biggest factor that has affected the atmosphere at home games. Dropped off after that when certain songs/chants were considered taboo, and has never quite got back to where it was.
