i can see turner going, plus many whose contracts are up at the end of 2012, gentle will want his own players not players a past coach has signed or was allowed to sign!

Aspinwall has done alright yes but do we really need him or want him as a "top 4 team" ? I would say "NO"

As for Tony Martin improving our right hand side, please......we have zero attacking threat there now, probably less than before (apart from Seymour playing there).

right hand side, like our search for a decent 7, has been a problem since barnett left the club, hopefully gentle will see this position as a priority and sign a quality centre we badly need, martin and sharp couldn't punch a hole through a paper bag tonight!

Who would you like to see go Wolfie?

Turner? or the other players that I think should go? (if we want to compete with the best of course)

Martin/Sharp is a very average right hand side. We have too many average things in our squad, like our stand off, our lack of a right hand side and an embarrassing lack of depth in the forwards.

We beat Salford away easily last season. The result tonight isn't a step forward therefore, in fact the opposite. Disappointing, much.'"

Goodness, not this again. Sometimes in sport, you don't get to beat every team you beat the season before. It happens. Yes, it's a poor result, but to hold it up as an indicator of our overall progress is simply barmy.

We're three games into a season that we all knew was going to be one of building for the future, rather than winning things. We only had two recognised props, and we played poorly. There will always be hiccups at the stage we're at, but getting all y about it so early in the piece won't help anyone.

From Gentle's post-match comments, he's under no illusions about the work that is needed to improve things. Last year we'd have had a string of excuses and transparent positive spin. At this juncture I'm prepared to accept that he knows what he's doing and give him the time to do it without getting all hot under the collar about every dodgy result.

Of which we had only two. Things might have been different with Moa and/or O'Carrol in the side.

Look, we've been stuck in the cycle of pre season PR frenzy vs let-down on the pitch for 4 years. I'm pleased the club haven't said daft things about where we'll finish, but I don't see who any subscriber to the "New Dawn" can be happy with the result last night. I don't realistically think we will finish much above where we did last season but I hope we won't go backwards. Last night we lost in a fixture we won last season. Whatever way you look at it, it's disappointing. James Smailes reported that last night had 2011 written all over it. I'm not "getting y", I'm expressing a valid concern. The 2 recognised props point is fair but we can't be using injuries as an excuse when we have an average amount.

Sounds like they're training at 9 this morning, which is good to hear. The Wakefield game should be an interesting one.

Under the old regime. It would be harsh to judge what the current lot are doing by Kath and Co's standards. Particularly when you take into account the fact that the rhetoric coming from the club is entirely different. The crap excuses for a poor defeat seem to be gone, and Gentle is saying all the right things about putting last night right.

Quote: Mrs Barista "I'm pleased the club haven't said daft things about where we'll finish, but I don't see who any subscriber to the "New Dawn" can be happy with the result last night. '"

I don't think I've seen single poster say that they're "happy" with last night's result. Some have merely, and quite rightly, stated that it's not the disaster others are making it out to be. Sometimes lower-placed teams beat those you wouldn't expect them to beat. It happens to every club - even the very best - at some point during a season.

Quote: Mrs Barista "I don't realistically think we will finish much above where we did last season but I hope we won't go backwards.'"

I'm still quite hopeful that we will finish higher. If we can get our props back and keep them fit for most of the season, and get our new players bedded in a bit more, there's no reason that sixth (fifth, at a push) isn't achievable. A lot will depend on injuries, though.

Quote: Mrs Barista "Last night we lost in a fixture we won last season. Whatever way you look at it, it's disappointing.'"

It is, a little. But, as I've pointed out, teams lose to teams they beat the previous season. Even Leeds or Saints do it. That in itself isn't an indicator of lack of progress. It's an early season result - a poor one - but these can even themselves out in due course. Many people have said that we would have folded against both Wire and London last year, so the signs are positive in that regard. Last night was a setback, but there'll be a few of those before we're the finished article.

Quote: Mrs Barista "James Smailes reported that last night had 2011 written all over it. I'm not "getting y", I'm expressing a valid concern. '"

It probably did, but things aren't going to turn around overnight. If we're still playing like that after round 10 or 12, I'll be concerned. And you are getting a [ibit[/i y!

Quote: Mrs Barista "The 2 recognised props point is fair but we can't be using injuries as an excuse when we have an average amount.'"

But, as I said before, often it's not the number of injuries, but who you have injured (or suspended). If you only have four props to start with and you lose two of them, any game is likely to be fairly tricky.

Quote: Mrs Barista "Sounds like they're training at 9 this morning, which is good to hear. The Wakefield game should be an interesting one.'"

If we lose that one, I might get a bit y myself!

Our pack is not good enough . Our right centre/winger are not good enough . Also we need a good stand off.
Then we may challenge. The top 6 will be a major acheivement for Hull FC in 2012.

No doubt about it we performed poorly...However know-one appears to be taking into account that Salford may have improved from last season, when I watched them on sky the other week they certainly looked a lot more dangerous in offence for the first 40 mins and scored some sublime tries.
We will not be the only club to fall under Salfords sword this season.
The test will be how Gentle and the boys respond next week, if we learn from the performance and build from there that will do for me, we do not have the players or the squad at this stage to be challenging the big boys however as long as we work towards that that again that will do for me.
