Urban myth. This board was full of complaints about how boring we were under Kear, the CC run excepted.
And the [ifact[/i is that it was Kearny who gave the main motivational speech before the CC final. No doubt Kear deserves credit for the win alongside everyone else, but he didn't especially raise the team that day.

| kear is a great motivator and can get a team up for a few one off matches, but he's no better than average as a coach. Talk was that he treat the players like children, which is no surprise as he used to be a teacher

| Being a man manager is hard, sometimes players need treating like kids sometimes they need help, assurance, bollockings, etc its a fine line and the good coaches know how to treat players when they get to know them

At times it was dull, but nowhere near as consistently boring, and there was some absolute cracking league games, 2 of which I have on dvd.
Could you post a link regarding your Kearney [ifact[/i? Everyone knows that Kear is purely a motivational coach, so to dismiss his input into our success is ludicrous.

I don't save links from 6 years ago on the off-chance that some random bloke on the internet will demand one. Have a rummage yourself if you're that bothered. Or ask a player who was there at the time.
Maybe you could point to where I've dismissed his input into our CC win? I believe that I specifically stated that he deserved credit along with everyone else. Maybe you missed that bit in your rush to put Kear on a pedestal?

Not strictly true there mate, there are some people on here that know. The Kearney story is the closest to the truth.

| Kearney said that in the days before the final in a team meeting the squad discussed what the final and a potential Cup win meant to them all, what their motivation was, etc. Kearney told them he had already achieved so much in the game and wanted to see the younger members of the squad experience similar highs. No strictly speaking a motivational speech as such. I'm pretty sure the club got Lee Crooks in too.
As for Kear as has been said he can get teams up for big games and revels in the underdog tag. His league record at Hull was very ordinary though, especially following the Cup semi win in 2005.

| Quote: Mr Bliss "General enquiry. Whilst JK had his good times with Hull where did it all go wrong for him and HFC?'"
Off field was the main problem..........
When bomber left JK took over and he was never paid the same money as Bomber, he continued to be paid the second coach money he had before. He got fed up of it and eventually refused to attend lots of off field events like sponsor meetings and such like this did not sit well with some members of the board. Things came to ahead when we had a bad run at the start of the 2006 season and using some players the board isolated him and then got rid. Just before he left JK told the players at a meeting that things would come right soon and they would go on a good run which would change the season.
He got the sack and with his team we went on to a long winning streak and an Old Trafford visit under Sharpe and our troubles started from this point. JKs record is a lot better then our current coach and I am aware of his "tactical coaching" style. One thing not in doubt is his ability to raise teams to achieve the impossible two Challenge cup finals against the odds tend to prove that. I think he has done wonders with Wakey with the resources he has been given and after five years moving on from there is a wise move.
I suspect that nearly all of us would swap JK for the current encumbant today and I wish him the best for his future.

Sorry Ian but going from bad to a bit less bad is not an option I'd consider.
JK, in a similar manner to RG was promoted beyond his capabilities. He is an excellent technical coach and I'm on record for telling Bomber that JK was the best signing he ever made. Things went wrong when the board decided to cut the coaching wage bill.

indeed, you would have thought the coach would be amongst the highest paid members of staff, and their wage would be heavily linked to performances, on this year's performances Agar should get an invoice, not a pay slip!

If AP isn't going to appoint more non executive directors (and I don't believe he will) then a D.O.R is a very sensible idea, the coach cannot be expected to manage the strategic development of the club at all levels, fair enough he controlsthe first team, but not a whole club.

| Do Wigan, Wire, Saints or Leeds have a DOR?
I don't believe they do and we don't need one either.
What we need is a good first team coach (and good coaches for the junior levels).
