Bit unfair on lynne IMO. He's still a baby and has plenty of time to improve. There were rumours he was lightening quick but I've not seen any evidence of it.
As for sharp v broughton, there's not that much in it but broughton is quicker which is why I'd rather have him in my side. I don't see sharp as someone likely to go the length of the field on a semi regular basis but broughton is. sharp is probably better carting the ball out of defence though. Neither of them can defend properly

| Hull wingers dont get the ball that often so the type of winger that workds for Hull are strong ones that scoot from dummy half and make breaks themselve.
At the moment Lyne isn't storng enough for that, he needs to get the ball out wide and back up breaks to show his speed.
We had Broughton on loan in 2008, we should have signed him then and got rid of Todd Byrne and used the his wasted quota space on a halfback.

Not writing the kid off but I just don't understand the hype. He is meant to be lightening quick but not seen any evidence of this. He reminds me of Kevin Penny but at least penny came into SL and score a few stunning tries, not seen anything from Lyn either in defence or attack. He's still really young but I can't see I am impressed in any way byt him as yet. Not trying to be harsh but just saying what I see.
That said at least Penny got some decent ball from the Wire side, Lyn has not had that luxury. Then again when we have made breaks I have not seen him using his pace to support the breaks.

Thought the same about Lyne since he started. He's still young and has alot to learn, but then I look at the likes of Joe Arundel, Josh Charnley and Rhys Evans, who are similar ages, and look far ahead of Lyne.
Not convinced as yet, but I am hoping he will push on.

Have to say I agree 100%. It's one of those where I want to believe what I've heard but just can't see any evidence and until now I thought it was just me! I know he's young but he seems to lack even the basic skills to me. For example - and before anyone shouts at me this may sound a bit harsh - but his passing technique, even when just passing the ball in from the touchline or in-goal area for a penalty/20 metre tap re-start, seems suspect. On the occasions he's attempted chip or grubber kicks they've looked clumsy to say the least. He may have pace, but I've yet to see him blast past anyone, apart from perhaps his earliest touch in Horney's testimonial when he got injured. It's probably a little unfair comparison, but when Tom Briscoe came on to the scene at around the same age you could see the talent/potential straight away but with Lyne, I just don't.
Finally to return to the OP I remember seeing Broughton score a really good try in an away defeat at Warrington a couple of years ago. With that and his other performances it always surprised me we didn't keep him.

| It was a mistake to let Broughton go when we did. He was young with lots of potential, pace to burn and probably on a relatively low salary. Taking into account that we had dross like Byrne etc.. on the books at that time, it was yet another poor decision from our once great club.

Stop being so dramamtic, we didn't sign Broughton because we probably had Calderwood signed by then.

| Maybe we did offer him something but Broughton has a place at the University of Salford studying a degree.

| to be honest we had Dixon and got rid. I don't have the insider knowledge some people claim to have but sometimes the clubs ideas on player/squad management are baffling.
I still don't know why we got rid of Craig Poucher! The last guy to ever score a try on the hallowed turf!

| I actually think the Centre play by Ratchford was far more impressive.

| I think ratchford and Myler at Salford were a bit like Cooke and Horne here in that It was Horne that got all of the early plaudits whilst Cooke became or could have become the far more complete player. I reckon that Ratchford could be the real deal especially if he ends up at say Saints. Certainly would have liked to see him here.
I think we let Broughton go because he wouldn't go full time because of his studies?
