last good half backs who performed for GB was Gregory, before him Millward
So roughly 1 every 15/20 years

| i think you could say it was a handful of players that year, but a good year from horne and cookie made alot of the difference i believe. Quote: FCTID "Quote: FCTID "Really, nothing to do with the other players, it was all Horne and Cooke?

Correct;
The team/ squad and a great leader got us to them finals!!'"

one good year, doesn't make them top class.
anyway, as PaulM has said, this thread isn't about them.

| Good little half back partnership Williams and Nicklas getting better each season too. I've siad for a while Williams will be the next Hull born scrum half to come through the ranks and make it big. Think he's got a good tactical brain, good little kicking game, good footwork, Progressing well imo. He's in the Jets programme and currently has training sessions with Longy twice a week.
Was saying the other day i'd try Horne and Turner (then went on to think seen as though Horne isn't performing in the middle of the park why not try Whiting at 6 and Turner at 7 with Horne at 1 just for a game, thats a diff story for diff thread though) together this friday and if that doesn't work i'd throw Williams in at the deep end, isn't ready to do it week in week out but he's an out n out 7 and has vision and a kicking game. I know it's a total diff ball game but look at Mcnally when he was thrown in for whitehaven at 16, was at school in the morning and scoring 4 tries for them on the night.
Teams throw youngsters into the mix all the time we shouldn't be scared to do it, at the end of the day like i say he's an out n out 7.

got to agree with horne and turner as half backs, some just cant cope at top level though, look at tommy lee i played at hull scholars and west hull with him at 16 best player in the country won top gun award at national camp as a stand off now hes an ok hooker, at top level

True, although that was Tommys biggest problem in my opinion that he had all the potential in the world to be a top class stand off, but was thrown in at the deep end at 7 and was expected to be a playmaker at such a young age at SL level and his confidence was destroyed. He always looked more comfortable at 6 to me, a position were he saw plenty of the ball and enough to have an influence on the game with a bit of quality now and again, I dont think he had enough character to make a 7.

| How good do Tuffour and Lynne look out wide, they even combined up the middle of the park for a great try. Maybe a future half back combination there.

yes i totally agree, when i played no body in the country had any thing on tommy even at 17 i think he was rated in the top 10 in the world for his age, when he was dropped in the deep end so many people was on his back to and totally shattered his confidence, maybe they should have done what they did with craig hall and loan him out and bring his confidence back and bring him up that way. shame really i tipped him to be big in super league under the right guidence

Tuffours got pace but did you see Reece have to put the breaks on to stop going past him

| Linesman was poor though, he should have stayed on his feet when he jumped over the fallen York player

He didn't make it big in SL, because he's not good enough. Some players stand out at a young age, whilst others take longer to mature. How many people who represent their country at youth level actually go on and play as a full international? The answer is 'not many'. It has nothing to do with him being dropped in at the deep end or people getting on his back.
