| Quote: Ian P "This was not a spur of the moment thing like the cancelled trip of another team last year and it was not taken for financial savings. I suspect that the cost in the UK would be the same if not more then abroad. In these hard times it is more exceptable for the team to be seen training in the UK then out in the sun of Portugal.
Who cares where they train as long as it produces results next season.'"
Spot on.
Didnt Agar also say that the training camp was going to be army style with also maybe a couple of 2 or 3 day breaks still in the UK too? (all good for teambuilding)

I totally agree why train on a good pitch in nice warm conditions. because lets face it. Come round one. We could be playing a soddend pitch with snow coming down.

Guess it depends what kind of indoor facilities exist in the UK to nail the ball work if the weather outside is unhelpful.

The only concern really is the kicking game, everything else can be done inside, but it will make a change for our lot to actually see a ball in pre-season.

Depends on the size of facility. To run though back to back plays etc they would need a half pitch facility at least. I'd hope we dont just run through 1 play at a time, would expect them to work on continuity through plays.

Yeah, but somewhere the size of David Lloyd or Cannons (in the tennis bit) would be big enough for that.

| Who cares where it is!
All those d*ckheads from the Red side can try and imply it has all sorts of connotations!
The only connotation i can see is that its a decision based on good business sense. A week training in hotter climes certainly does help, but if it isnt feasable, then which kn*b of a chairmen would allow it.
Whoever made this decision has made the right call.
HKR fans can say all they want - if i were them, i'd worry about trying to sort that woeful away kit, and awful stadium, and the fact that they havent won a trophy or appeared in a major final for years!
We'll worry about our side of the river!

| Never understood "warm weather training" anyway. We send them to a warm country to train for a season that starts during probably the coldest spell in the year? But then, I'm not a trainer.
Frankly as a fan, I don't care if they train in Hull, Portugal, Spain, at the North Pole or Mars, provinding they produce the results match day.

the benefits are both physical and psychological.
The physical aspect means you are not hindered by climatic conditions when trying to get a base level of fitness.
The psychologial aspects mean that practises, understanding and greater teamwork/set play drills can be performed, thus enhancing the team understainding.
Cancelling a session at Brantingham Park/Saltend/wherever at this stage of the season is far more detrimental in the building blocks of getting an individual or team up to speed as quickly as possible.

I reamain unconvienced. Physical... you can obtain a perfectly good fitness level in a variety of ways, including indoor training facilities, such as indoor pitches, gyms, and swimming, running tracks, all of which are pretty readily available.
Psycological, while I understand that the areas you have highlights are important, I don't see how its got anything to do with warm weather. If we want to work in a team or understand each other we all have to jet off to somewhere warm. I'm going to suggest it to my manager, I'm not sure he'll go for it though. I think you can actually get all of those things here in the UK were the training conditions will be similar to those they will be playing in.
