I am an ex smoker so I am speaking from experience at how much smoking effects your health.

Passive smoking increases your risk of getting lung cancer and one or two other smoking-related diseases. AFAIK there have been no studies indicating that it has any impact on your general fitness.

It reduces your lung capacity and therefore lowers your ability to take in oxygen which is needed to feed the muscles or something like that so has a detrimental effect on your overall fitness.

You are describing the effects of smoking. There is no medical or scientific evidence that I am aware of to indicate that passive smoking has the same or similar effect. Certainly not the amount of exposure you would get from being near a group of smokers outside in the fresh air.

BTW, I am a non-smoker and about as anti-smoking as you can get.
