I used the three letters "IMO", which means that in my opinion it is a poor decision.
The family can of course have what they want, but my opinion as a non-family member (which means it doesn't count) is that it's a poor decision. I just feel the silences are far more respectful and moving.

It is the way of the weak to secretly bleat to those in authority rather than fight their own battles.:27608.jpg |

So do i, it is IMO much more respectful. The only reason they tend to go with the noise/applause is to placate the airheads who enjoy spoiling the silence, though it has to be said this is rugby not football and by and large the silence is usually impeccable.
But like you said if its the family wishes then thats all that matters really.

One of the problems with a minutes silence at the KC is the noise that comes form the concourse, people out there create a background noise (not on purpose I must add) as they are probably unaware what is happenning inside. I myself prefer a minutes silence but I do feel uncomfortable by any noise generated either intentionally or not.

| The family is given the option.
Like most aspects of deaths and burials it comes down to personal choice and what is repectful is recognising the families wishes, personally I would want noise to celebrate a life lived.

| Cant believe this is even being discussed to be honest!
Family and Club say make noise - then make noise!
You want to show your respect - then do as requested.
Its as simple as that.
If someone had a funeral and they wanted Roses only, its EXTREMELY rude to then say something like "in my opinon id say Lillies are better"
If someone asked you to wear white to a funeral and sing every song with gusto - you even discussing or questioning their request is in really poor taste. You wouldnt wear black and sing quietly, the way you show your respect is by doing whats expected.
NOT QUESTION IT!

nice outbusrt, and completely out of order.
Nowhere has it been said it was the families request, although Wilf has alluded to the fact that it could have been.

It has been mentioned it was the families request by at least 3 people.

Maybe you are in the fortunate position of not having lost someone close to you.
Because i know that even at church funerals, the families wishes are one of the first things asked about the most importnat thing to consider at a memorial/funeral.
I would find it massivley surprising if HullFC didnt ask how the family how they would like to the tribute to be conducted.
Maybe your natural pesimism is to blame, but i dont think any organisation makes it public knowledge that they are consulting the recently bereaved family on how a memorial is conducted - its just a given fact that they do!
As for them being your respects, youve clearly lost the concept, its not how YOU show them, its how you respect the wishes of how the deceased person would WANT you to show them!
As i said before, if a family requested you wear white to a funeral, you wouldnt wear black just because thats how YOU want to show it.
The fact you wore black would be disrespectful in its own right.

On the last few occasions where "noise" has been requested there has been a direct comment about it.
I am not saying it hasn't been this time, just observing that it's a few posters on the mb that are stating such.
I am not a pessimist, I am realistic, this is a discussion forum, hence we are discussing the ways in which we find it appropriate to pay respects.
