| Quote: Chris71 "No that's not likely at all, we've already given opportunities to the younger players such as Gardiner and Laidlaw and they've shown they either aren't good enough or ready yet and Staveley is coming back from a serious injury. A lot of that could be down to the poor Coaches we've had and the lack of structure and both training and game time.
We are short in the middles so Salabio would help to add a little depth as that is what we are lacking in that dept, so no it wouldn't be blocking the path for younger players.'"
Thanks for the clarification

Think I would too, although still think we will have the cap space for another signing mid season

In an ideal world i think we would but don't think we can afford to wait to be honest. We only have four first choice props available as it stands with Herman, Aydin, Ashworth and Ligi.
Fash still doing rehab and as Dave K says Ashworth prone to injuries and Gardiner, Laidlaw not really good enough.
Sutton would have been ideal albeit a gamble given his injury record but seems the rumour about him was just that..

| If Salabio been has released and is without a club, don’t we receive some dispensation on the cap? Think this was the case with one of Rovers’ recent signings.
I’m all for some squad depth. Better to have him onboard and going through pre-season, than a short term loan signing during the season.
The main thing is if he can run, tackle, stay fit and not get sin binned/sent off/suspended. All of those attributes combined will be an upgrade on many of our players last season.

Gardiner and Laidlaw I'm not sure they are good enough, both have given chances but they don't look good enough for SL IMO.'"
Think agree with this. Even if Ashworth is Injury free, forwards will miss games and for me waignhouse is the future but 12 months away
I’ve seen limited from him but looks like an old fashioned run it straight & hard forward which I like. Too often forwards try to be ball players.
Ideally, I’d like one more prop on loan and then looking at centres as well

Also be useful when we have to rest players due to new regs

| Could be a decent pick up only 24 adds some decent depth to the pack and 6"4 and well over 16 stone seems a good size.
If injuries bite Wainhouse, Jebson, Kirby etc... aren't ready to play every week so it makes sense to add some depth and size to our pack.

| Not really heard of this kid. Get that there's not a lot of middles about but we were promised a hard working middle. Does this dude fit that? Would of made a serious play for Byrne and offered a fee if necessary.

Shocked few people know about him. Thought he played pretty regularly last season. Just checked and he made 10 appearances (14 times in 17 man squad, 4 unused sub). Would’ve played a few times for wakey had he not suplexed Myler into oblivion.
Not a dreadful pick up for a squad player who is still to reach his peak

Byrne has come out and said he didn't want to leave Wigan anyway, so don't really know what we could do with that

To be fair they didn’t really promise anything they said they were looking for a hard working middle. I think it’s safe to say whoever was the original plan A just didn’t work out as Salibio wouldn’t have been it. If Byrne was the target always seemed like a tricky deal to do as Peet seemed adamant he wasn’t going to be released from his final year from the off.

| Seen some comments by Giants fans where they’re disappointed that he hasn’t been retained.
If he ends up here, just have to see how he goes.
Think the major plays are still to come, with statements being made.
Not an easy task for Myler to quickly correct the poor recruitment/retention since 2018.

| Reading Ashworth's article this morning, hopefully he can stay fit he's definitely worth another two years if he stays injury free. He's a big unit and was one of the positive signings.

Agree, for me he was one of the very few positives from last season and who really committed to the club with moving to Hull. Given the lack of conditioning and prep of players under Smith tenure I thought Ashworth displayed more than enough to show what he's capable of working and guided under a decent Coach. Think Ashworth will go very well for us next season along with Ligi.

Agree as well. Thought Ashworth started last season positively with energy and enthusiasm, eager to play his part in the team. But as soon as he picked up that first injury setback early into the season he found it difficult to regain his momentum once more. don't think he was fully fit even when returning, he seemed to be dogged a little by niggly injuries which hopefully won't strike next year.
Think it's also worth pointing out that by the time he returned to action after his first lay-off, the wheels had started to come off the club big-time. To describe the team as 'struggling' is obviously an understatement! It's hard enough when players are trying to find their rhythm again after a lay-off half-way through a season, but to have to do so in a side which was rapidly falling apart makes the task doubly difficult.
The whole atmosphere around the place from around April onwards was hardly conducive to positive thinking. Like I said, trying to pick up the thread again can't have been easy for any of the injured players throughout last year. The whole air of despondency enveloping the club simply became enervating for all after a while (owner, coaches, players, supporters). It's far easy to slot back into a winning side than one going backwards at an ever increasing rate of knots, as we undoubtedly were by that time.
Hoping that Ashworth will be one of the players who will benefit from the new broom attitude sweeping through the club in recent weeks. Given an injury free run, I think he can make a big contribution over the next two/three years in putting the club back on an upwards direction. He gives the impression of being prepared to 'put a shift in', which I think is what we, as fans, are really looking for from everyone in 2025.
Fingers crossed, Ashworth gets to play a full part in the revival next year.

I know & appreciate that sometimes we drift off topic a little on threads especially on long ones however I have deleted the links you posted. They’ve been deleted as they were just links about Rovers and this is a Hull FC board and offered nothing in terms of discussion. If you want to post significantly about them please use their forum.
