| Quote VerbalKint="VerbalKint"would people be bothered if we where challanging and winning trophies if we had a team entirely made up of non UK players??
I know i wouldnt, dont care where they are from.'"
No they wouldn't I don't think. Maybe they would voice concern but at the end of the day you want your club to succeed first and foremost.
However the rules they are a changing..... well for most clubs at least And the teams with fewer imports this season will hopefully reap the rewards in coming seasons when the ageing imports who are exempt dry up and there are no more loopholes to take advantage of.

| Quote Roverswall="Roverswall"In both the Kolpack and the Bosman cases it was a player that won the case I belive.
Putting it bluntly if a player was to challange any ruling about the 'quota' that has been talked about on here with an aim to play in the SL he would win simple as.
Infact after seeing the RFL's reaction in the Mason case I doubt it would even go to court.
Again the deduction idea is a good one but could be seen as a means to restrict free trade unfortunatly.
I do agree that the law is an ass though.'"
The Federation Trained scheme was brought in as a direct copy of a scheme run by Soccer that had been thrashed out with employment authorities across the EU and deemed to be legal. Which makes it even more puzzling that it should (apparently) be abandoned out of hand like this.

Not so sure about that..Having 2 SL teams in this city has always attracted youngsters into the amateur game. Hull have a very healthy junior amateur scene with a lot of people involved, we want to see the talent make it..Being involved in amateur I for one would not pay to go and watch a team full of Aussies.
For instance I always watch KR on tv (not just because I want them to lose ), but because Welham is from our amateur club, so I always want him to do well knowing how hard people worked with him as a youth and how much work and commitment he put in. Thankfully FC have more players to watch from out local club, but it is special to see local talent make it and they will not with a team full of imports.

This link explains what football is doing in a fairly simple and I assume accurate way.

Exactly. If you substitute Federation Trained for Association Trained then you pretty much have the system the RFL was operating up until this week, apparently.

In principle it is similar, I agree. The football system is much more limited IMO, though. For a UEFA competition (and I'm guessing the EPL), you need 8 locally-trained players in your 25-man squad. Locally-trained can be the equivalent of club-trained [ior[/i fed-trained.
SL are (were?) looking at 8 club trained and 12 (really) fed-trained - for a much more 'ambitious' (ignoring the fact that RL is not a global sport) total of 20 from 25. The principle is similar, so maybe the scale shouldn't matter, I don't know.

I agree with you I would rather young local talent given the nod instead of bringing in journeymen Aussies/Tongans/Kiwis etc who happen to have a grandparent who spent 2 weeks holiday in Malta or something daft like that
The point I was arguing is I don't think people would be hyper critical if we had a team of johnny foreigners if we were winning trophies etc. Luckily we as a club have brought through a fair few young talented kids and hopefully we will continue to do so. As things progress we will see less Imports and more homegrown talent and we may well end up being one of the front runners, because a lot of clubs are too happy to bring in journeymen as a quick fix instead of looking at the long term picture.

| So if and a big IF (not likely yet) Rovers win anything next year (including the derbies) the reasons are simple. Too many foreigners.
Get them in early.
