| Maybe the club have asked the HDM to be a little more candid with their news stories on the next coach, as the Rowley one was played out massively in the press and ended up not happening

| Never understood why the club has insisted that being british and having SL experience is priority, realistically the market for that sort of coach is incredibly slim, the one candidate that fitted that bill was Rowley, who we have given up on.
What other options in SL is there? Wellens, Burgess, Peet, Watson, none of which are going to leave their current roles
Then you look at other targets like McDermott, Agar, etc which rightly 99% of people would turn their nose to.
Some of the best coaches this competition has seen over the years have had zero experience of the game in this country, you could call it a gamble, but to me it’s one I feel we have no other option but to take.
It feels like, post the Rowley links, we have just wasted time in unrealistic targets, glad to see we’ve finally broadened our search.

I'd hope so. Although to be fair, it wasn't just the HDM's fault. But I do feel that all that press attention might have played a part in that falling through.

I suspect it was a priority because they had identified Rowley as their number one target. It was probably a bit of a PR move because they were confidant they had got their man whilst also being vague enough to cover themselves if they had to go another route. Whilst we aren't likely to get any of those coaches you mentioned, if we end up appointing an assistant from a SL club then they can still say that it counts as experience (just not as head coach). If we give the job to Grix or a Championship coach (Richard Horne for example) it's a similar thing because you can point to their playing careers as the experience.
If you notice, after Rowley fell through, the narrative changed slightly to include coaches with knowledge with SL rather than specifically British coaches. Which was around the time the Lam rumours started. And although the HDM are saying that is still a preference, the key word is preference, suggesting they are broadening the search as you say.

Other than maybe Wane are there any other SL coaches which we should be looking at. I suppose it doesn't have to be a current SL coach. If not the likes of Holbrook would hopefully be in the conversation

I suspect Wane won't leave Wigan. He's got his cake and eating it at the moment by being involved with the club he loves and also getting to do his coaching role with England. But if it was possible, I'd absolutely go for him. Holbrook would be a fantastic appointment as well as far as I am concerned. I just feel now that it's more likely going to be an assistant (either here or from the NRL) or we're going to have to dip down into the Championship. Unless we give it to Grix.

you lessen the gamble on a new coach (or player) by being thorough with your due diligence which we haven't done as a club recently if ever

I also read a follow up piece somewhere that indicated rowley would have come but it was the logistics of working on the other side of the country that stopped him. He will leave salford for somewhere commutable from where he lives

Something definitely changed somewhere along the line in my opinion. A lot of rumours about why that was the case but I can see it be a commutable thing.

Another failure by Pearson & Myler not moving the club closer to Manchester for Rowley’s convenience.

| HDM's article today seem to suggest its likely to be Cartwright, if so then id be over the moon with that! Someone who has worked at the top end of the game and previously worked as assistant in the origin games for NSW. Big pedigree and very well respected in Aus. Quite straight talking too which we may need for both man management and handling the media. Would potentially attract one or two names from NRL too. In Cartwright we trust!!
For anyone doubting his appointment i cant fathom why? Yes hes an assistant currently but wasn't Willie Peters too? Wasn't Holbrook too? Wasn't Kristian Woolf too? plus Cartwright has experience as a head-coach and did well at the Titans.
