| Anybody who thinks Brian Smith is the answer is deluded, does nobody remember his last coaching role at the Roosters?
You're living in cloud cuckoo land if you think he'll replicate anything near what he did first time here, the games changed immeasurably since then.

I'd agree with both of those, but would they leave their existing jobs?

Probably not, think Smith has plans to move upstairs at Wire and I don't see why Powell would want to downgrade.

So...
The person who tutored Trent Robinson,Tony Smith,Daniel Anderson,Potter,Morgan ,Taylor etc ..you dont think, could instill foundations for this club?.for an assistant to take over at a later date.
The Roosters sent Robinson to Catalans to see, if he could cut it as Head Coach, with Smith's son as Conditioner.
When they realised he could, the hierarchy wanted to move Smith to DOR,Smith refused the position.
Realistically... Pearson wont even appoint an attack coach to the existing staff.
so paying compensation for Powell or Smith is a distant dream - IMO

Smith's a dinosaur and oversaw the worst Roosters team in recent years.
You seem to be confusing who I said I'd want with who we could get.

This shows the level we have come to. Some hoping that a bloke who coached us 27 years ago can do with full time players what he did to part time players. Brian Smith did good things for us in the passed. That's where he should be left.

I'd welcome Brian Smith back.
Yes, he may have been a coach 27 years ago, but has the game really changed that much. It's still 13 v 13, 4 points for a try etc?
Brian Smith was charasmatic, a motivator, who promoted a team ethic. 'We have no Superstars in this team' was one of his quotes. He turned Paul Eastwood and Andy Dannatt into GB Internationals.
He'd improve this team. I'm not expecting him to win the Grand Final next season, but he'd take us forward, he'd make us believe again, he'd make us positive.
We do not have many options. In our situation, we have to get an experienced Coach in and I'd go for Brian Smith or Brian Noble. Steve McNamara would not be a good move, he was woeful at Bradford and escaped with the England job, were he gets to pick the best players in the country - primarily from just 4-5 clubs.
The other option is not to make a change and that would be a disaster.

As the old saying goes: you should never go back. Brian Smith has a place in our long rich history, but that is where he should stay.
He isn't the answer.
