| Was at the game, and as a Saints fan i have to say i expected a lot better from him
He has looked pretty good in SL, but had an absolute shocker today.
He completely bombed two trys, with one he caught a cross field kick in open space, and was merely falling over the line to score, but then managed to drop the ball.
A few mins later was given the ball 10 yards out, no aussie near him, and he ran straight intouch when going for the corner. Looked a complete plonker.
Will say however he was strong returning the ball in midfield and managed to milk a few penalties from the disgracefully ill disciplined australian team.

Still very raw in Reece and is a bit overrated at present by some Hull fans, lots of potential but that still has to be realised.

I agree. He's shown some promise but still has alot to learn. He has the physical attributes required to play the game but just needs to learn how to deal with the mental side and basic skills.
This will come with experience and, of course, age! People forget he's only just turned 18 on Thursday.

Sounds like he's learnt a bit from Calders about never giving up and chasing everything

Does concern me he's our only one though, think a club of our size and infrastructure should be producing much higher quality youngsters than we do. Prob get shot down but Lasty needs to be shown the door in my opinion'"
The chief scout is the one charged with finding talent. The coaches then nurture it. For far too long our scouting system has failed to deliver, with very few exceptions. That problem I hope was addressed recently and hopefully we will see some results now. Only trouble being we are at least 5 yrs behind Wigan, Leeds , and Saints.

REALLY!! not how i saw it! Should have done better for the kick. But never really gathered it in properly and it came out against defenders leg! But that can happen in them conditions plus early in the game! Both teams bombed a lot of chances! From Englands point of view its months since many of them played a game so bound to be a bit rusty! The foot in touch wasnt that obvious to me! Must have just touched with toes! But that came from a slow cut out ball that he had to grab at,by time he got it defence was sliding across. So much so had to curve body round the post! Not exactly running straight into touch! All in all not a bad game from him. Took couple high balls well. Carried ball very strongly. 4 penaltys i counted that he won from strong running and attempted fast play of the balls! Poor disciplined aus team but all helped keep england going forward. The chase back to tackle aus kid was apparenty brilliant!(missed it getting a coffee) . Much room to improve but that can be said of both teams and most players. Aus improve there pen count and we"ll be in bother(2 men binned) but then hard to tell cos we lost 3 during game with injury! Looking 4ward to fri's game! they'll be looking too pick it up,we'll have shaken the cobwebs off a little and the game finnished with a bit of needle! So may even be a bit of biff!

Struggle to agree with that, as it seems the total opposite to me. At juniors and academy level we have looked at least as good as the rest for several years. The difference has been that other clubs' youngsters have improved as players, whereas many of ours have simply got bigger but kept the same skill level. I can't believe that the scouts are finding no-marks and the coaches instantly help them to their peak of 'not quite good enough' which remains for the rest of their playing days.

| Surprised the England team didnt have a warm up game before playing the Aussies because most wont have played since September against a team 3 games into a tour.
Sounds like a more disciplined Aussie team may well be a handful on Friday night.

You have got that seriously wrong. Hull have signed the vast, vast majority of the best kids in this city over the past 20 years.

Not sure where he limited his comments to just Hull and the locality.

He didnt. Not sure who Hull employ in West Yorkshire, Lancashire or Cumbria to be honest. Rich Agar seems to have Pontefract covered though.

| I look to a scout to recruit players at a young age into a system that will develop them into stars of the future. If you are prepared to look back over the past 20 years how many internationals have we actually developed ? How many decent lads from Hull have been plying their trade elsewhere in SL away from Hull. (I accept that for a few years both clubs were out of the top flight) and just how many players have we attracted via scouts and not the Heatheringtons pillow talk to the club.
We have lorded players year in year out and yet we have recruited very few young stars and developed even fewer true stars.
As a city Hull has a great RL family whatever colour who seem to talk about the next big thing coming through. I am now talking back to the late 70s when we had the likes of Steve Dennison and co coming through, but I would say that the only truely world class players that has been developed through our junior system and into the first team are Lee Crooks and Garry Schofield. Lee was local and Garry was picked up through scouts.
It is hoped that Tom Briscoe will develop into a truely world class player and he was a scouting recruit from outside of Hull. I also hazard a guess that it was Rich Agar and not the chief scout that found him.
It is ok watching East Hull, West Hull, Dockers, Skirlaugh week in week out and thinking you are signing the best in the city, but Rugby Leagues boundries and truely class players can be found beyond the HU post code. I see very little evidence that anyone at the club over the past 30 years has seen that.

To be fair both Hull teams have financial struggled over this period so its hard to compete against the likes of Wigan / Leeds who where prepared to pay amazing amounts to tie up as many kids as possible (some kids given cash amounts of over £20k is not an exaggeration). Just looking back Hulls youth teams have been very strong and it must of been a rare occasion to not have one of these teams in the national finals in each age group. What has surprised me though is how it has seemed that these players have not received the international recognition which gives access to better coaches etc. The there is geography and the Image of Hull itself to most of the M62 corridor Hull has been an outpost with a bad reputation so when trying to sign a kid from Oldham or Warrington it becomes apparent that they are in a losing battle even now. Then there is the chances of actually winning things as they go through their career success breeds success and it shows players like LMS are happy to take a lower pay packet to sign for saints.
