| Quote: muddyboots "firstly good luck to Rich and i'm sure with his already vast RL knowledge and the time he has already spent here he will definitley take the club forward.
Sharp was the coach and even if Rich did have his own ideas during this time it was down to P.S whether he actually implimented any of them or not so we can't really comment on this.
tbh we don't need an Aussie director of rugby as in the case of Steve Mac who had no experience also, he has had no problem with recruitment whatsoever,
i would take an educated guess at this
Debatable, and not really when considering the point people are making. The concern is mainly overseas recruitment, how much can an inexperienced coach appeal to NRL players? You say McNamara has done well, but he's still only captured 2 players from over there. Tupou is a bit hit and miss, and IIRC Morrison wasn't long after Noble's departure so he was probably already well into discussions.
If anything, McNamara backs up the fear, as he's recruiting mainly from SL.
Also, if the first thing they say is 'how much are you going to pay me?', knowing us their next words will be 'no thanks, x have offered more'.

| FFS give the guy a break and a chance and some need to get over their all things australian obsession.
And as for saying that it purely down to ££££ well that just ridiculous and such a knee jerk reaction and doing Rich such a diservice.
He's been appointed for a reason and maybe that is he actually might be good enough.
Let's support him not pull him down.

| Jon Sharp has shown than you can still recruit well in the NRL if you have the backing of the board.

| Well we all bemoan the fact that we do not appoint enough young British coaches and here we are running him down before he has had a chance.
For me , there is more to this than that, some soundings must have been taken with the senior players and their views obtained. I think it has been planned for a while myself. Lets face it, for me, it is better than Harrison or Cullen or even Murray. With Richard what you see is what you get and he has studied under a great motivator who could not man manage and a great man manager who could not, apparently motivate. That experience should stand him in good stead! It's a positive for the British game on the franchise front too!
Lets get behind Richard and give him our support!!
As for an assistant the last time he was in charge and did so well Lasty was the power behind the throne as far as motivation is concerned I would go for him I think although it is a risky one!! The kid is FC through and through though!
The fact is he is now our coach and we should give him at least till the end of this year and a pre season to sort out some of the mess. I think as a club it shows great belief in the British game, although some will no doubt see it as a Cheap and cheerful fix and of course it is both!!!
Lets get behind him on Sunday!!

The voice of reason, well said Wilf. People questioning RA appointment obviously have no idea what so ever of his coaching abilities and great FL knowledge.

I don't doubt his coaching abilities, or his RL knowledge, I DO question the motivation behind this decision, the way the announcement was handled and wether our board are really pulling out all the stops for the future.

| Quote: PAUL M "I have mixed feelings.
On the negative side I do worry about the length of time he has been at the club and his closeness with the players. We needed a totally fresh approach and some backsides needed kicking and I not sure RA can go that after being no.2 for so long. Also I think a new proven Aussie would have been able to tell the board what he would and would not accept whereas with RA I feel that the club will have complete control over him.
On the positive side he is young, talented and British and its good to see people like that getting a chance. He will now have the chance to implement his own style of rugby league too and his philosophy will hopefully be a more attack minded one. He seems like a really great guy and certainly understand the fans and the club too.
Only time will tell if its a good decision but I feel the negatives outweigh the positives just now although I will be delighted if he can prove to be a success.'"
Sums up my feelings as well.

I agree with what you've said except for that in bold. That imo is an insult to RA why can't the appointment be based on his coaching credentials.
Just because he has an english accent and has been promoted from within he's being written off.

Wonder if they did the same before sacking Sharp.

Two points...
1. Nobody is writing him off. Questions are being raised as to whether he is the best choice.
2. I, and many others questioning Agar's appointment, were solidly behind Kear when he was promoted from within.

| As a Saints fan I can see the logic behind Agars job.
When he took over briefly after Kiers departure he did a decent job, and against Saints on Sunday he managed to get a gritty performance from the guys. Many teams would merely have folded.
Your current situation is horrendous. You should be hovering around the top of the table, but like Wire are vastly under performing.
Injuries do play a part, but Hulls lack of offensive creativity has been noted, this isnt for lack of talent, but instead lack of systems to correctly exploit that talent.
The most glaring sign is your failure to develop young players to their full potential.
Richard Horne is a classic case of a player who just hasnt fulfilled his rich early promise.
Graham Horne was also a hot junior prospect who just hasnt gone anywhere
Yeaman is another who has just stagnated.
Tommy Lee was hailed as a great prospect, but has merely become a big pudding.
This to me is an indication of Peter Sharps weakness in coaching.
The best coaches dont necessarily win things, but they do improve players.
I dont therefore see how Agar can do a worse job.
He might not be a big name now, however he has the chance to become a big name. Remember everyone has to start somewhere.
With no relegation its not exactly a big gamble.
The 2 and half year contract will enable the club to make a fair assessment of whether the team and players have been taken forward.
For examples of a coach who have developed players, look at how Brian Mcdermott has brought on players like Tony Clubb, Louis McCarthy Scarsbrook and Michael Worrincy at Harlequins.

| I'm disappointed with the appointment.
I'm not bothered how old he is or where he comes from, so I don't see what is so great about having a "young British coach".
Agar will get my support and I desparately hope he proves me and other doubtors wrong, but I just feel this is an appointment that is not one a top club should be making.
