Wigan have bigger crowds, and bigger names in both the coaching and playing staff and look how that's working out. Warrington have good crowds, seemingly endless resources to spend on players and Tony Smith and they're not pulling up trees either. Then check out Wakefield, with a skinny squad, tonnes of injuries and poor attendances. Maybe we should have kept Kear after all.
Think you need to check Wakey out again - a very strong squad if anybody bothered to look - only a few injuries now, though props are a bit thin on the ground - poorish attendances but an average of 7,000 (last year) is hardly dreadful.
Yes you should have kept Kear.

Personally I do think that you have a thin squad but what has happened pre-season and so far has really galvonised your team. Last year Wakey were very average and its not as if the squad has drastically changed. Not sure why the O.P mentioned injuries and attendances though, hardly Kears fault.
But no, we shouldn't have kept Kear. He was a dreadful coach for us imo if you look at our wildly inconsistant league campaign in 2005 and how poor we were in 2006 when he was in charge. Just because he has done good for you, it doesn't mean we should have kept him

And here comes the Wakey version of Rommell.

We have a squad that has Drew, Brough, Obst, Latu and Rooney in it. That gives us far more options than almost any other club in the playmaker department. Just read that list again, they may or may not in your opinion be individually the best in their repective positions, but they are all proven at SL level and all know their game. Ditto the rest of the squad, even our kids like Murphy, Pitts and Bibb are now on 20+ SL games That to me is real depth. There appear to be no especialy weak links at Wakefield at least for now and believe me I have looked.
There are also names in the Trinity squad you won't recognise as talent because of the shirt they wear - no one really looks at the Trinity team sheet - well not until they lose. Were they Leeds or Saints players you would, it's how it is and you know I'm not bothered as it keeps the vultures away
We are a very good team, but I know we are not the best - to beat us is more than possible for Hull but if this season is anything to go by you will have to work at it. Though to be fair we are due an off day so you may have a comfortable win, who knows
\As for Kear leaving Hull, it takes a man to say I was wrong and Cath is a man isn't she Go on just admit you might be wrong about Kear and that perhaps he was not the guilty party - no I don't think you will ever be able to eat that much humble pie.
Apart from one season, have Hull been anything other than wildly inconsistent under both Sharp and Agar

I'm not one of those who ignores a player because of the shirt they wear, never have done and never will do. I think with play-makers you are right but in the backs and the forwards I think that you are thin in terms of quality and feel some players are playing above themselves this season. I don't really take experience into account as very poor players have played many SL games in the past, and are currently doing so at the present (Thorman for one). While I'm not saying Wakey are poor (I don't think the word thin would make it out like that anyway) I feel that if everyone played to their abilty they would be closer to the bottom than the top.
With regards to Friday, I'm sure you will beat us comfortably without really been pushed. Although I can't see you beating us by more than 12 or 14 point.
Also, just because Sharp (who imo was better for us than Kear but not by much in the end) and Agar have been poor for us, it doesn't mean that we should have kept another coach who was poor for us. The only fault Kath has in this is that she and her board have been crap at making coaching appointments

Sorry - couldn't fit your whole post in without my screen acting up. I don't want to argue with any more trolls about their teams on our pages. I've always liked Wakefield and think that FC have had good relations with them over the years. The ground and people are welcoming, the atmosphere there is good, they bring good support to away games and they play attractive rugby. They also have a coach who many of us were sad to see leave our club and we have swapped many players over the years as well - including one or two greats of the game.
So go back to your site and tell your pals how bad it is on our pages will you?

To be fair we are hardly setting Super League alight right now and we are out of the cup, whereas JK did bring the Challenge Cup home and put a Grand Final team together, so on that basis he is the best coach we have had in recent history

In this argument, it doesnt matter if we have improved under Kear or not. We were poor under Kear, we were poor under Sharp after 2006 and we are poor under Agar. The club should hire a good head coach for once.
If Kear put together a Grand Final squad then it could be argued that McRae put together the Challenge Cup squad. But obviously both arguments are silly to make. I could put together a grand final team together, it doesn't mean I would get them to the grand final does it? Kear managed to win us a few games in the cup but when it came down to the bread butter of the league he could get us going properly. One game against Leigh he put 70 on them, another game against Leigh we drew. One play-off game we wipe the floor with Wire. The next week, its 71-0 at Bradford. I could give other examples but I think I have made my point. We could win the cup every year for all I care but if we don't perform in the league then the coach is useless. A coach signs the players, a coach trains them, a coach motivates them, a coach develops the game plan etc etc and no coach since McRae, you could even argue that no coach for even longewr than McRae, has been able to put together a team that can play consistantly well
