| Quote: Chris71 "I wonder if TS will pick a 17 to play a game against the reserves during the international break which includes Trueman and Hoy to give them a run out in game situation?
At least with having no players selected it should be an uninterrupted 2 weeks to build on todays result.'"
You would think so
To bring Trueman straight back in without any competitive game behind him would be a mistake especially against a side like Wigan.
We have seen what happens when Savelio and Tuimavave returned without games behind them.Tuimavave is just about match fit now.
That said McNamara is just catch and pass and his kicking is awful so even an unfit Trueman could probably do a lot better

Can see Trueman coming straight in tbf. Smith said the artificial pitch that the reserves play on can tend to aggravate knee and achilles injuries

| I thought Ligi Soa was immense, almost an old fashioned enforcer. Took on Chris Hill in the first scrum and every scrum after. In the second half when Hill went off Sao was free to play and made a lot of yardage and offloads. Satae had a buzz about him and was devastating when running from deep onto the ball but had to take too many flat passes. Taylor stood up well and was a lot more energised. The lightweight Fash, Lane and Cator were obviously fighting above their weight Gardener’s a prospect, didn’t flinch. Houghton was his impeccable best. Clifford controlled everything, MacNamarra did a thoroughly good job. The backs were really good running the ball back, big raps to Carlos and Swift but Scott deserves a special mention. Litten was superb, heard he’s of to Queensland Cup next year, hope he resigns for us instead. Griffin was excellent apart from the missed tackle for their first try, which he admitted to, hope he’s not too bad, he’d be a big miss, again. As you probably can tell, I’m a happy clapper tonight but a big test a week on Thursday then onto the banana skin

Tried to post my prediction here but site rejected my attempt. Agreed with your comments and predicted a Hull win!

| I had a nice return at the bookies on this one!!!
Love an FC win and we needed it. Davy Litten proves 100% we should never worry about playing the Youth.

A likely story
Even though it got a bit squeak bum time at the end, we were in control for most of the game. Huddersfield never threatened us from deep, they've got some good maverick style players but we hardly saw them. Watson will be on thin ice if they don't improve.

Speaking to some Giants fans on the way back to Park and Ride and they're not Watson fans. He has a structure that the players have to adhere to so any flair players are not able to do what they're best at.

That was clearly evident in the cup final last year, probably the most negative displays I had seen and I went from wanting them to win, to hoping they would get beat
Think Connor will get very frustrated soon if he isn't allowed to play his natural game.
Have to say, he was class after the game and a nice touch to clap the fans.
I'd have him back here for sure, just not sure where you would play him.

| Not sure how someone like Connor fits into a methodical Watson coached team.
His game plan is effective when it works, but very restricting. Like when they went for two early on. They could have played on, and had Hull rocking if they’d scored a try.
He’ll be expensive to get rid of, as he took shed loads of back room staff with him. Part of the reason he didn’t come here!

| Eventually when everyone is fit(if it happens)I can see Litten going on the wing with Hoy 1 and Trueman 6, Smith said in his interview yesterday Litten is very good on the wing and at fullback. As long as we don't see MacIntosh I'm happy, Cameron Scott had a decent game yesterday on the wing too.

| Stats are out, some good numbers, picks are
Carlos best game of the season 161 metres
Swift again, 152 metres (Having a good season IMO and must be kept)
Satae, finally, 16 hit ups, 135 metres, 28 tackles (1 miss), this is what eh should be doing most weeks.
Houghton 42 tackles (no misses), good yards made of og DH too,
Litten 108 metres, 3 offloads and 8 tackle busts
Poor attaching stats for Lane and 9 missed tackles for Mcnarmara, these are still our two weak links IMO.
Hopefully with Hoy/Truman and hopefully Savelio (Although think his time at Hull might be done), these areas will be strengthened.

| For me Swift is a no brainer to keep along with Satae, Macca is a sqaud player can do a job but has had to play lots of minutes this season, Griffin another always makes yards but then misses the tackle on McQueen tough one for me but a year deal wouldn't be a bad option, only player I thought struggled was Dwyer took the wrong options a few times like running it on the last, we should have popped a DG over at 20.8 with 6 to go.

| By far and away our best performance of 2023. A great effort from 1-17 and a good use of the bench from Tony following losing Griffin for the most part of the game. I don't know if it was a case of the penny finally dropping but it felt completely different from the past couple months of watching us, there was some real aggression in both defence and attack and with some smart plays on the ball to match.
It is important that we don't get carried away here. Of course I am happy to see my side win but this is a first in 8 attempts, which still makes for grim reading. It is vital that this is the kickstart for our season, Wigan is a tough test of course, but if we play with the same attitude as yesterday then we will give ourselves a fighting chance.
