I'll settle for an entertaining 36-34 win every week.

Quote: Staffs FC "I guess whether we were lucky or not depends very much on how much you've invested in slagging radford off before a ball has been kicked.'"

Yup and I stand by my words, Radford is NOT the man to take us forward, he hasn't enough big game experience & I personally don't think he has the nous/skillset either.
We clearly have bags of talent in the side that is for sure and even without a coach they could/should win games as there are enough experienced heads there.
Do I want him to suceed, absolutely, but I still don't think he is the right man for the job. That's not slagging anyone off, that's offering my opinion based on what I think...there's a not so subtle difference, one you appear not to grasp..

Looked very very good for 20 mins but defence and Goal-kicking a concern.Lineham needs some work on defence as was caught out but that can be taught.Biggest plus was Pea...what a workhorse and beast this bloke is.

Quote: scarrie "What an odd game!
Some terrible defending, some good tries, shocking goal kicking, a few cheap shot and lots of penalites. A game that had it all.

A win is a win but we definitely need to tighten out defense up for next week. Lineham seems to have taken over from Briscoe in wandering off his whitewash all the time. Anyone else think Lineham looks even bigger than last year?

I was impressed with Paea, did huge minutes and was everywhere. Feka didn't look half bad either, the true definition of an impact prop!'"

Lineham didn't look match fit to me, seemed to be carrying his leg.

Would like to see Talanoa get a bit more service. Fair play to him though, he came inside looking for plenty of work and barring an error at the end (which I thought was an attempted offload gone backwards, play on) played steady and mopped up near our try line a couple of times. That one where he managed to keep the ball in the field of play was great skill, haven't a clue how he managed to keep hold of it like that.

Ruddy hell, what a match.

Aside from the defence, discipline and goal kickin we did alright icon_smile.gif

I was more than a little concerned during the first half but we looked pretty good for that spell in the second half. Plenty of reasons to be happy tonight.

Not a bad crowd either, given the opposition, TV and weather.

thought he went ok for his debut, but as you say he didn't get a great deal of service (welcome to life on the wing for HullFC! icon_smile.gif ) but he tried hard and looked for work and that's all you can expect.

I've grasped two points with both hands despite some fundamental failings tonight. Don't worry I respect your opinion but don't really give a poop about it personally so no worries. You might be right about Radders but he's one from one and I note you omitted that from your analysis. Onwards and upwards.

Quote: Staffs FC "Horne missed a tackle or two and cost us the early try. Over the whole game the halves look OK we need to shore up some defensive issues but Horne/Rankin are the partnership in the driving seat.'"

The try he bombed in the first half was poor, and he just didn't really look that threatening until midway through the 2nd half IMO. In the first half most of our play went down the right & was pretty ineffective, whereas on the other side I thought Rankin didn't initially see enough of the ball but looked far more dangerous when he did.

Horne was OK without tearing up any trees. Good enough to secure his place in the next game though.

I'm still happy, saw enough to think our attacking play will get a lot better and already seemed miles ahead of last year.

Worry about defence now, we might be the new Newcastle

I said to my Dad in the warm up that I thought Lineham looked a little bit tubbier than last year. Maybe his injury slightly hampering his pre-season conditioning.

Quote: scarrie "I was impressed with Paea'"

Likewise, he was much better and busier in defence than I was expecting.

Very happy with the win yes defence needs looking at but it was good to see us passing the ball at pace although we need to get our play the ball faster. Thort the spell just after halftime when our front row was paea azza and carvell was awesome. Well done fc

Oh, I'm not suggesting dropping him[*]. I was just initially replying to our attack being slick, as I thought that he noticeably wasn't for a good chunk of the game. He was functional, but not threatening enough IMO. Heremaia & Rankin were much more our danger men.

[*]At least not yet, even though personally I'd like to see Miller in the team. Horne did enough to play again next week, and we'll see how he does then.

Horne gave some penalties away early a couple of which were pretty harsh IMO. He backed up well for his try and got better as time wore on. Heremaia was superb and Rankin is a find - a young Horne no less.
