Quote: weaver93 "there's no point speculating IF AP ,would even appoint any Assistants to help Grix..
On a sidenote, Does anyone know if Seamus McCallion is still at the club??
No mention of him on the clubs website...'"

Seamus left, not 100% sure why. I know there was some Issues with how he managed Hoy’s hamstring. A few people thought he was too old school with his approaches.

I’m not a big believer in sacking coaches before their 3rd season but as I said when we appointed Smith I was unsure. It’s the same with Smith at Leeds, they appear to want to play pure rugby and subsequently ignore the stuff that wins games such as the wrestle and set completion.

I wouldn’t be distraught if the club decided to move him on. For me the options are:

TS moves to a DOR role and we bring someone like Lee briers over from Aus. I was impressed what he did at Wigan and then Brisbane.

We bring in an experienced coach like Kearney or Wane but that’s sadly not realistic IMO.

We look at an agreement with Salford where Rowley comes end of the season. Think he’s got credentials to get an underperforming side firing. It’s just whether they’ll let him move on and if we have the £££ to convince them.

Which one has leadership and man- management skills??'"

This is certainly a quandary for the club and one reason they have to think very carefully about what they do at this. It can't just be about who is available should Smith go and hoping they can produce better results. There has to be a plan in place and a suitable candidate to fit those plans. What is going to galvanise the team in the long term? Do they want a motivator or innovator that inspires the players for example? A hard no nonsense taskmaster that will whip them into shape? We can't risk making a knee-jerk response.

Why would he come though? He could stay at Salford where he’s respected by the players & supporters, possibly leading to a move to a bigger club. Or he could come here, have the players decide whether they want to perform for him or not, if they don’t the fans would turn & end up calling for him to be sacked ruining his reputation. No brainer to me.

Rowley would be ideal, proved he can work on a small budget and get people playing. Good at recruiting the right players.

But would he come here and would we be able to afford him, sadly think the answer to both is no.

I’d agree, especially as now Salford seem to have a few positives coming out of the club. Just down to how quickly they can financially steady the ship.

However, one thing we can say is we won’t sell our best assets and should be financially a lot stronger after paying off the Covid loan. We’ve taken a similar approach to Wakey & Cas to steady the ship and Cas appear to be claiming they’ll have a lot bigger playing budget next year. The hull job must be daunting for coaches now but surely they must see it as a job with so much potential

Wonder if Richard Agar fancies coming back. Nothing would unite out fan base like hating him

He would be a good replacement, I was impressed with his style of Rugby when he was in charge at Leigh.
However... He has a good structure around him, a Director of Rugby, ( Ian Blease) and 2 Strength and Conditioners.
We don't have a DOR, and only 1 Conditioner, who last season was a data analyst for Sports Science.
He's under a better system at Salford..

Plus he might be wary what's happening to Watson at Huddersfield after he left Salford.

Even if we were to make an approach to Rowley over the coming weeks, I think he would turn us down flat.
What would be the gain for him. He leaves Salford, after working to a restricted budget, to take over a club, also working to a restricted budget, who have a fanbase whose expectations (rightly or wrongly) tend to be higher than at Salford.

Unless Pearson persuades him that from 2025 onwards there is planned investment coming into the club and that he sees Rowley as the man to front the project, I honestly don't see what's in it for Rowley, career-wise I would view us as too great a risk to his reputation without any obvious potential reward on the horizon.
Then there is the issue of uprooting from Manchester to Hull, which has always been an issue for us, going back decades, when dealing with domestic coaches or players.

If I was Rowley, and Pearson came knocking, I think my answer would be 'thank you for your kind offer of employment, but I have decided to respectfully decline your invitation at this time. I would like to wish you all the best in your future endeavours' (or words to that effect!!). I just don't think he would be interested at this point in time.

I don’t even think I’d bother answering the door.

Chairman skint so Smith won’t go plus if the chairman refuses to spend full cap what difference will a new coach make, for me I’d love Rowley but if we are thinking of promoting Grix I don’t see the point. All boils down to the owner I’m afraid trying to kid everyone and do everything on the cheap. TS is too blame for no scrum half and the fact we have a NZ international hooker playing 7 which is Ridculous IMO. I’d like to see Charles given a chsnce till Trueman comes back we will be bottom 2/3 regardless so nothing to lose IMO.

If we want to start looking at specific names, there really does not seem to be too many obvious candidates out there who we would be interested in and/or would be willing to come.

If we start with the current SL coaches; we can rule out Peet, Wellens, McNamara, Peters, Burgess, Lam.
I assume we are not interested in either London or Castleford's coaches, which leaves Rowley, Watson, R. Smith.
Appointing Rohan Smith (even if he somehow agreed) would be bizarre, having just sacked Uncle Tony, and Watson's star has definitely dimmed somewhat over the past couple of years and I doubt his appointment would enthuse the faithful to any great extent.

Shaun Wane and Paul Rowley have both been mooted as potentials, but I don't believe either of them would be remotely interested in the role right now, unless Pearson put big-money on the table to persuade them, which he won't.

We are then down to current championship coaches (Daryl Powell, Sean Long?) or those working as assistants in SL (Danny McGuire, Danny Ward, Martin Gleeson, Richard Marshall?) which I suspect would go down like a lead balloon on here. Then it's a roll of the dice and appointing the current coach at, say, Batley or Dewsbury!!

After that, we are down to the time-honoured road of the current 2nd assistant defence coach at Cronulla who is appointed after coming across well in a 20 minute tele-conference call from down under!!
I did see a few names, currently working in Australia, mentioned above, but would any of them view us as a tempting job for their career paths? and would we trust Pearson to make the right call in this regard anyway, given our recent appointments. I have my doubts that we are attractive enough at this moment to persuade someone of that nature to come onboard with us?

I have an awful feeling that Pearson will continue with TS, partly because he doesn't have the finance to pay his contract up, and partly because he has no idea where to turn to next. I honestly can see us limping on for the foreseeable, simply hoping that somehow the pieces will fall back into place, despite all evidence to the contrary!!
We are in a massive hole, of that there is little doubt right now.

All sensible points especially not signing a scrum half as even when we signed Clifford there was a probability he would go home after one season. Smith admitted it. We had plenty of time to source a replacement but there was no contingency in place.

The Trueman situation is concerning. There's no doubt he will improve us but after another long lay-off it'll take him a few games to get back up to speed. The problem is how many games will he play before he gets injured again? I feel sorry for him but it could be another expensive gamble that might not pay off.

People, me included, thought Pearson wouldn't sack Hodgson. We're a worse team now. Something will have to give eventually.

Find the money and poach blease from Salford as director of rugby would be the intelligent thing to do, start with a brain inplant at the club then move forward
