Totally agree. We're desperate for a right centre because it's our defensive liability, we're desperate for a backrower through pure lack of numbers of established players. We have a competent stand-off as well as a young prospect coming through, so it's not one of our highest priorities.

Horne is still a decent player, if there was no salary cap I'd agree that he needs replacing, but whatever he's paid 50K doesn't count on the cap so gives us a bit more room there!

Irrelevant, though, as Yeaman comes under this ruling next season and the £50k is per club regardless of how many players qualify.

From next season I think it does, but at the moment I believe he's the only player at the club with 10 years here.

I like Horney regardless, and with a good 7 next season who can take some pressure off him then I think he can be a good asset for us.

I'm another who thinks that Fitzgibbon's time here has been overhyped by many. IMO there was more of the team structure being made to suit him than him fitting in to what was best for the team.

Stats however don't lie. Maybe he was to old to prove his hyped up rep but he still better over the season than the others... Bringing westerman in the argument then relaunches the 'coaches' tactics and not the man put in the position..

Add 1 more to that list. He was by no means a bad player for us. But he certainly wasn't as good as some people like to make out.

They don't tell the full story either, though. The thing is, if you play long minutes down the middle, you'll naturally rack up a big tackle count. That's why the top 3 tacklers are all hookers, and the rest of the top 10 is rounded out with another hooker, three 60-80 minute loose forwards, a couple of big minute 2nd rowers, and Lynch, the prop who probably plays the most minutes in SL. That doesn't mean it should be sniffed at, but nor should it be held aloft as the be all and end all.

Unlike most of the rest of the top 10, Fitzgibbon has offered us very little with the ball. If you like stats, here are a couple: 1) he averages less metres per carry than both Ewan Dowes and Lee Radford. 2) He also averages more penalties conceded per game than both (in fact he's even averaged more than Lauaki, who is apparently a penalty machine). Interestingly, both Dowes and Radford are endlessly slated on here for how little they offer, yet Fitzgibbon is lauded as if he's some sort of messiah.

No other player got near Fitzgibbon's intensity unfortunately. Had they done so our pack would have been far more effective than it was and in an ironic way Fitz would have stood out less. Good import and I'm glad he played for Hull even in the twilight of his career. To say he was overrated is plain wrong IMO, moreso a number of his colleagues who couldn't match or infact get anywhere near Fitz' intensity.
