| I don't know if anyone else saw it, but SSN were talking to an academic football finance specialist earlier, talking about what the implications are surrounding relegation and survival. He said as well as City pocketing another 30 million, the local economy will benefit to the tune of 40 million.
That's right, 40 million bones
Of course, some of you more embittered jealous types will be along to strongly refute this fact and dismiss it as "Bo!!ocks", etc., but seeing as this was a bloke with letters after his name, and posessing half a brain, i'll choose to believe him

I think a good wedge of that cash is generated on or around matchdays, hotel use, bars, restaurants etc.
Believe it or not, Hull's becoming a bit of a good spot for a weekend trip.

Doubt that will apply to Hull.
Difference between Prem and Championship gates is an average of about 6000, made up of mainly away fans. These are bussed to the ground, then bussed straight back out.
The extra 6000 fans in the stadium will hardly make a difference to the city of Hull itself.
The only winners are the shareholders of City who will see the massive difference of income.
Oh and i have letters after my name too!

| Quote: Hawk Wing "How average were City today, the united kids were all over them. Duffen & co have too spend £20m to have any chance of staying up.'"
Completely agree with that; city will have to spend well in excess of £20 million to compete next season
Newcastle squad's transfer value was £140 million + which shows how much of a big team they are and how much of a disaster it is for them to go down
City's squad being around £20 million highlights how fantastic it is just to compete at this level: in theory City should have been worse than Derby

| Sorry but this expert IS talking BOLLOCKS. The figure for extra local (local been inside the city NOT outside) economy spend would be in the figure of £4M - £6M per year
I would like to see how the figure of £40M was come by.
Say the difference in fans between been in the Champ. to the Prem is 6000. Of this 1/10 of this number (as away fans) stay in a room & spend on average £100 each incl room/food/beers the rest are non stayers spending an average of £35 each (beers/food), we do not include match tickets as part of the local economy nor any food/beer bought in the stadium as this goes straight to the club/Duffen/shareholders. Nor any extra money from SKY, sponsers etc.
Multiply this by 19 games and you have a ball park figure of £4.5M so to say £40M is utter rubbish unless the expectation is that every single fan that doesn't come if in the championship spends on average £350 on a match day!!
And yes I've got a few letters after my name as well as real world financial analysis experience too..

But they paid over the odds for those players as they are not worth it.
Stoke spent nothing in comparrison and stayed up in comfort. By your reckoning they should have gone down as they not 'a big team' like Newcastle

[quote="Wellsy13":1juz9zgo]To us REAL fans, there's no better feeling than winning competitions. Getting to a final is next. Then a top 6 finish or semi-final appearance. Then I suppose the derby counts as the most important league fixture.
Us real fans don't look over our shoulder at our neighbours and do whatever we can to get one over on them. We look at the bigger picture. And this is the reason why Rovers are and will forever be considered a small club. Because their fans and board would rather get one over on Hull FC above anything else.
Quite sad, really! [/quote:1juz9zgo]
