For all the talk of “A final for the ages”, it was pretty low quality.
Dobbins succeeded in preventing Leigh from playing their normal game, and slowed the ruck down by getting bodies in.
The excitement was in the jeopardy more than anything.

The only mild disappointment, from our perspective, was that the winning drop goal didn't come from Gareth O' Brien!

As he lined up Leigh's first attempt to win it, I'm sure I wasn't alone in thinking "surely not again!!!!" Talk about history repeating itself.

One thing you have to say about our dear neighbours is that they sure are unique in the annuls of RL history.
The first, and indeed only, club to be both relegated and lose a Cup final to a golden-point drop-goal, and very nearly to the same player

Obviously a 'little' club, such as ours, cannot even remotely aspire to such dizzying heights of achievement that our dear friends have scaled since 2015. Only a 'special' club, such as our nearest & dearest, can continue to find ever more creative ways to trip themselves up in a manner which seems to be beyond every other club in the game

Who would have thought, after all those years of heartbreak, that Wembley Stadium would one day provide so many unforgettable memories for Black & Whites everywhere It almost feels as if we have now won there four times within the past decade, such is the entertainment provided, specially for ourselves, in 2015, 2023

Yes I believe we now have a better % win record at Wembley than Rovers. Ironic.

Finals often are poor quality, our performance v wire in 2016 was terrible for most of it. A great day out yesterday, great entertainment and pleased for Leigh

Our match against Wires was State of Orgin compared to yesterday. It was an awful game. More knock ons than days since Dobbins won a trophy

The omens are looking good

After Rovers last final defeat we went on to win it the next 2 years (16/17) as we all know.

If we win it the next 2 years it will be 24/25

I.e. the score from 2005 when we beat Leeds at Cardiff

To coin a phrase of Windsor Davies “Oh dear, how sad, never mind” we got the monkey off our back in great style 2016/17, I’m sure it will happen for them but in another phrase from Dijmon Huonsou in Gladiator “ not yet, not yet” be nice for it to go on a while longer after all what goes around comes around a la 10-5 club and that song.
