| It's fair to say that he may not have fully reached the potential shown at the start of his career (last international was when he was 24, I think) but to play for one club for sixteen seasons is remarkable especially in the modern era.

| When the surgeon reattached his head before the cup final she saw the letters HULL FC running through him like he was a stick of rock.
Legend.

| A good way to bow out on his playing career.
The consummate professional, and respected on both sides of the river.

Extremely controversial but I wouldn't consider Peter Sterling an Hull FC legend, just a mercinary player who played fantastic rugby for us, yes he was one of the very very best we've ever had..but legend..not for me.
Legend to me are the likes of Horne, Gay, Nolan, Eastwood, Boxall, Hancock, Macklin, Harris, Keegan, Whitely, Scott, Finn, Watts and even further back Rogers, Oliver, Batten, Bowman, Taylor and J.Harrison plus plenty of others in between.
It doesn't matter if some weren't the most talented, it's what the lasting memory is for individual fans, what these players mean to the club, their loyalty especially throughout barren times, it's that we remember their names and how they make us feel not just their achievements on the field of play..I'd take a Mick Scott over a whole bunch of more talented players that came and played in black and white.'"
NOLAN(nothing against him)-you're argument falls down right there.

Tbf he scored 1try that got us into the premiership final, & 1 to put the game out of reach from the chemics, makes him a big part of history.

| As time passes only the great parts of Rich's game will be remembered. And at his best Horney was a brilliant matchwinner for us. He had great gap finding ability in broken play allied to brilliant backing up. His ability to go through smallest of holes is only shared with the very best stand offs, and his acceleration away was a joy to watch. He was at times inspirational and a very good defender. I'll always remember the man at his brilliant best for Hull FC, the reason he was chosen to play for Great Britain.
A loyal Airlie man and boy. Thank You Rich, one of Hull FC greats. And as time will decide i'm sure ....Hull FC Legend.

| Deffo a legend and a great of Hull FC, a one club man who's given his all too and often been asked to play positions that weren't really him. Never let the club down and played with pride and dignity. Horney you will be missed

Doesn't make him a legend.

| big difference between a clubman who is an average player and legend. (not on about horne here). the only players i would class as legends are norton, sullivan and whiteley from the 60s onwards - these are 3 players you could describe as one offs (does that make sense?)
but at the end of the day everyone's idea of a legend is different and i wouldn't necessarily argue with their cases, but nolan is stretching things a bit
horne was an excellent player for long periods of his career who showed the club great loyalty

I didn't say he was a legend, just helped the club get it's name on the then famous premiership trophy.

| For me Richard Horne is too young yet to be a 'legend' but he is definitely our stand out player in the Superleague era so far. 300+ appearances and 100+ tries guarantee that at the very least.
From 1999 to 2007 when he played in his natural role he was second only to Danny McGuire as a running try scoring half back. Thereafter injuries and the fact that he was often expected to kick and move us around the field curtailed his effectiveness. Basically his career was split pre and post Paul Cooke.
Thank you Richard and best wishes for the future.

Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the (Dark) Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."[/size:1gwenaug]:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_35230.jpg |

| I've never been Richard Horne's biggest fan and often though he was over rated or miss used but nobody can deny the man's commitment and dedication as a Hull FC player. A true clubman in every sense of the word. I hope he has as good a coaching career as he has had as a player. It will definitely be strange not seeing him take the field next season.
