The current league is not a pro league as most of the players don't get paid, although some of the teams are run like semi-pro clubs due to the distances involved. The biggest club, Jacksonville Axemen, has a larger average crowd than Leigh. They were talking about introducing a full-time league if they could secure a TV deal, but so far there hasn't been any sign of this actually happening.

I seem to remember that an ex-Rovers player had an involvement with rugby in America - Tim Irons - it was some sort of deal with the RFL that he thought had the potential to make him rich.

Rovers had a couple of Americans playing in the A team in 1980 - Tim Anchors and Pat Kelly.
