This country is fooked enough without blowing billions more on a World Cup we have no chance of winning. It's bad enough paying for an Olympics just so we can win a couple of medals on a bike. How much is it costing? £12bn? I'd sooner the money went on our shafted NHS and helping companies through a recession. Possibly helping grass-roots sports too.

Have a look at Manchester and see what the Commonwealth Games brought, they are truly community and public events (as are the Olympics), which sets them poles apart from the World Cup, as someone else has said (fcbaldy I think?) the average fan will get priced out of attending the important games at any World Cup event.

Just think, the UK will be coming out of recession towards the end of next year, and just as it's gaining pace mid 2011, BOOM, a massive shot in the arms for the economy from the Olympics, what concerns me is how the legacy is managed, I wouldn't trust the idiots at the various "forward" quango's as far as I could throw them, M2002 was a Ltd company, we were allowed to make a profit, the government didn't interfere much, which is why it worked.

Problem with people like 3days is they think the 12bn has gone on the stadium, they have no concept of hoe regeneration works, or that a portion of the money has been raised privately.

tram system expansions taking place in the majority of citys that have put there bids in just for a start to replace buses that just could'nt cope with the extra influx for a start .

most of those city's already have stadiums over 30,000 aswell so the extra expense can be put into better facility's rather than ground upgrades

nothing to do with the WC bid, any city that has spent money already has made a mistake, until you get confirmed as a bid city then you just keep the capital aside.

mite not be anything to do with the world cup bid but the expenditure of the internal transport systems are sorted and dont need to be budgeted for therfore if there bids are sucesful they will have far more money to spend on other things
