| The reputation, past and present of the Tiggers fans will stop this. Even the cages they built to shepherd them from away fans didn't work.

This country is fooked enough without blowing billions more on a World Cup we have no chance of winning. It's bad enough paying for an Olympics just so we can win a couple of medals on a bike. How much is it costing? £12bn? I'd sooner the money went on our shafted NHS and helping companies through a recession. Possibly helping grass-roots sports too.
Rant over. ![DEPRESSED icon_biggrin.gifEPRESSED:](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//a054.gif)

Have a look at Manchester and see what the Commonwealth Games brought, they are truly community and public events (as are the Olympics), which sets them poles apart from the World Cup, as someone else has said (fcbaldy I think?) the average fan will get priced out of attending the important games at any World Cup event.
Just think, the UK will be coming out of recession towards the end of next year, and just as it's gaining pace mid 2011, BOOM, a massive shot in the arms for the economy from the Olympics, what concerns me is how the legacy is managed, I wouldn't trust the idiots at the various "forward" quango's as far as I could throw them, M2002 was a Ltd company, we were allowed to make a profit, the government didn't interfere much, which is why it worked.
2012 and the WC bid are so political it's untrue, which is what could cause them to be percieved as a failiure, and then we'll show how it [ishould[/i have been managed when we deliver Glasgow in 2014.

The selection process etc. for the "true" Eurpean Capital of Culture is to change from 2012, preseumably so that the "president of the EU" can select it themselves.

| Nothing justifies £12bn+ on a 3 week sporting event that will leave a massive stadium, pool and other infrastructure as its legacy. Not to mention a sporting village and media centre.
I'd sooner see Police, Nurses and Carers given the benefit of massive funding than someone I've never heard of collect a silver medal for archery.

Didnt seem to affect the previous Citys who have had the Olympics does it.We may as well not bid for anything and become a backwater country.

Problem with people like 3days is they think the 12bn has gone on the stadium, they have no concept of hoe regeneration works, or that a portion of the money has been raised privately.
There will be no "giant stadium" left, and the facilities that do remain will benefit future generations, they are the kind of people that lament the demise of the milkman, pit poneys, davey lamp and powdered egg.

Hull has been planning for this for a long time too, the infrastructure is an interesting point. What in particular do you think isnt up to it?

| most of those city's already have stadiums over 30,000 aswell so the extra expense can be put into better facility's rather than ground upgrades

nothing to do with the WC bid, any city that has spent money already has made a mistake, until you get confirmed as a bid city then you just keep the capital aside.
based on a conversation I had today, I think Hull will be in the twelve named as hosts, we await Tuesday.

which world do you live in?
So, of the city's bidding, who has shelled out on trams in recent times?
Leeds?
Derby?
Sheffield was ages ago, paid for by Meadowhall
Leicester
Nottingham was years ago, paid for by Europe
deal in facts, not the mush between your ears.

You know nothing, which is duly noted.
Why don't you crawl back under your rock?
And neither Sheffield nor Nottingham are expanding, in fact, there are no expanding tram networks at the current time.
