Good point well made. As an example of the benefits of this, I have just returned from doing an audit at a small company. Several of the questions we asked were H&S based.

They didn't have an internal Safety Manager, but a receptionist/secretary/admin clerk managed their H&S Plan & activities.
We asked about her expertise in this area & she said she was in the process of starting her NEBOSH training. We agreed this would benefit her & the company, and it assists us as clients to have someone full time with this qualification.

There are many different levels to the NEBOSH Health and Safety, I passed the Certificate first and passed the Diploma part 1 and its never really given me any benefits.

If 'Joetwizzy' is one of 90 to loose their jobs then he should speak to his local Jobcentre and ask if he can access the 'Rapid response fund' That number of people will be treated as a mass redundancy situation. If he wants to retrain and knows the costs of courses etc., then he might get help with the cost of re-training.
