FWIW Hall will get more chances for sure but it is up to Hall himself to improve his defence to the extent that no one talks about it as a weakness for him any more.'"

Or as with Tom Briscoe we work out how to give him better ball so that people talk about his 3 tries rather than his defensive errors.

Don't think our attacking play has been too bad this year as the points for column indicates. Better quality ball will help any back as you say. As for Briscoe he has much to work on. I said a couple of weeks ago he should be the back under most pressure to keep his place.

What annoys me about Hall is his jumping out of the line in defence either to intercept or tackle the receiver, most of the time his timing is off leaving an overlap for the opposition.

is that not more down to our defensive pattern meaning our outside backs on both sides end up jumping out due to overlaps?

Quote: Big Dave T "I just find it intolerable that Agar plays him FB last year and ruins his confidence and drops him and then plays him on the wing to cover this season and drops him following a terrible team performance. (and poor inside sliding defence)

I've said right since pre-season that Hall should be our left centre and to be fair he's looked top drawer at right centre. Knee jerk reaction from Agar that i dont support one bit.'"

Dropping hall is the easy option for agar. He obviously doesn't rate him. For Hall's sake he needs to move on (unless we have a new coach by then) at the end of the season. Shame as he would be excellent if given a decent run in his preferred position.

radford was rubbish last Friday but I bet he doesn't drop him for moa

Quote: Big Dave T "Will agree to disagree. Whiting would struggle to get a contract at a top club other than for cover and if Calderwood wasn't injured at the start of this term i dont think Whiting would have been in our 17 yet.

Some of the real RL genius players over the years have had woeful defence. I agree, Hall isn't the best but i've also seen enough of him since been loaned to Widnes to suggest that he is working hard to sort that out. Getting dropped for things that weren't your fault isn't going to help. I think there's more to it that simply his performance.'"

I think that by enlarge I would agree with you Dave however I think that although he is a potent attacker, at present as the last match highlights on the club site show his defence at Wigan was woeful at times! OK he scored one try but he conceided two directly because of his actions. Once he came out of the line and missed his man completely the second time he got sucked in and left his winger. 12 points in a critical first half; game gone! Sadly although he was far from the only ones at fault in the overall performance I guess his mistakes do stick out a bit! He'll be back!

Factually correct. Tough to pick out one guy but the fact is he was shocking defensively in the first half. Hull FC TV shows it.

As someone else has said none of us know how players go in training either which I'm sure also has a bearing on squad selection. Hall will be back if his character is up to it.

Agar's comments on RH were as follows:
Calderwood back as first choice winger
Richard Whiting has played consistently well this season and was one of our better players against Wigan and therefore earned the right to keep the shirt
Craig Hall didn't play that well against Wigan but that was in the context of being uncomfortable out of position as he's not a winger.

None of these comments or the decision are that unreasonable. Anyone would think we've got Inglis available but are choosing not to select him because we've got the option of Brendan Hill in the 3/4s.
