| It's a real shame that he's in effect been thrown to the lions. Too much too soon for the lad.
He obviously knows his days are numbered but he was at the burger challenge last night interacting with the fans - seems a really genuinely nice bloke. And my niece was in bits when he brought out her ice cream sundae and asked for her by name.

| We look a better functioning team with Westerman as a central pivot.
However, when Miller was selected, he took over Westerman's role,
would have been easier, if Miller played on the fringes , instead of main organiser -IMO

| He will have to improve most of his game, his kicking is about the worst I have seen from all the halfbacks we have had the last few years and that takes some going.

Don't agree with that. Like other aspects of his game it's inconsistent, but not outright poor. His first game this season was spot on. With time consistency may well come, whereas Horne has had over 10 years of practice and his long kicking is still a poor area of his game, so Horne for one is someone I would say was/is worse. Nicklas is another. Heremaia and Seymour about on a par.

Horne short kicking game is better than Millers, I can't remember a try that Miller has set up with a short kick and not many drop outs forced either.
Can't really count Nicklas as he only played 3 first team games for Hull.
Heremia is a hooker, but I would still say his kicking is better than Miller, sure he has kicked a couple of 40/20's for Hull.
You are probably right about Seymour, he was just as poor for Hull, but that's not actually a great achievement.
His running game isn't bad, he can throw out a decent pass now and again, but at times he passing is appaling also his decision making, kicking and tackling are not up to SL yet.

Kicked 2 in one game last season against London I think it was.

Agree about Horne's short kicking game being ok, I said about his long kicking game. It is, and always has been, abysmal.
I seem to recall a try in the South Stand from a Miller dink over the top, but even so it's not something to rave about.
Quote: Dave K. "Can't really count Nicklas as he only played 3 first team games for Hull.'"
I was just going on the halves of the last few years, with you saying he was the worst kicking game we've seen there. Since posting I've also remembered McGoldrick.
If we're discounting those who have only played a handful, then realistically we're talking about Miller, Rankin, Horne, Heremaia, Holdsworth, and Seymour. I'd say he was better than a couple of those, worse than a couple.
Quote: Dave K. "Heremia is a hooker, but I would still say his kicking is better than Miller, sure he has kicked a couple of 40/20's for Hull.'"
Paintman's right, he kicked 2 against London, whilst playing at least part of the game at hooker. Whilst playing in the halves he's had a few ok games, but often has done much like Horne IMO and just rammed it down the opposition's throat.

Agreed it's not a great achievement, but I still wouldn't go so far as to say poor. Seymour also had some good kicking displays for us but was inconcsistent. I was mainly saying that I think it's wrong to say he's been our worst kicking game of a pretty poor list. Overall I'd say he was in the middle ground, because he at least sometimes has got it right.
As I said in my original post, there are aspects of his game that are inconsistent, but poor is OTT IMO. With time and experience, I still think things like his decision making, passing and kicking could come together and make a good halfback, but we don't really have the circumstances or patience for him here.

I think the biggest issue we [imay[/i have is what wage he is on, suggestion is that he is on a decent amount which makes him an expensive luxury, were he on the kind of wage a development players should be on then he'd be worth keeping, also have to consider the cap space etc.
I feel sorry for him, not really done anything wrong but gets slated, yet Horne can do no wrong in some people's eyes.

As usual, it's purely based on his local status. I've said this for years, if Horne was an Aus half-back, he'd have been hounded out like other before him.
Why we never left him at fullback, I'll never know. Far and away his best position as his step was second to none. He had real pace and strength too.
He's never been able to kick, despite Pearce and others coaching him over the years.

| Miller had a much better game for the Dons today in their 24-16 win over Leigh . He replaced Paul Cooke who was injured .

Good on him, glad he was involved in your win over table toppers Leigh.
