I wouldn't be surprised to see Ellis doing the S&C with Davidson overseeing it.
I'd really like to keep Ellis at the club.

We'd be daft not to.
He's still young in terms of coaching. Only been an assistant 2/3 seasons. Even if he helped out Shenton for a few seasons.
S&C is a decent shout too. Its where Bellamy started out
No doubt Smith will help his development.

| Not sure if Ellis ever seemed truly comfortable in the roles he’s had since he stopped playing.
He’s the sort of individual you want at the club, just need to find a role where he feels comfortable to bring the best out of him.
Played under Smith, who would be a great mentor for him.

| I'm really surprised that Ellis didn't go down the S&C route given his professionalism with regards to his diet and physique, and training intensity. Maybe it takes a while to realise where your talents lie

Me too. Think he would make an outstanding S&C coach. Just hope he is staying as would be a huge loss if he goes.

Totally agree, Ellis would be a huge loss to the club and would be very surprised and disappointed if he was dispensed with. I think the club and Ellis have been in a state of flux since his playing retirement and although he's been given a coaching role I'm not sure the lack of structure under the Hodgson regime and the inexperience at the top helped Ellis at all.
I think under the guidance of Smith, Ellis would certainly make much more of an impact on the team.

30596_1286642206.jpg If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

Not going to lie, personally gutted that Stan is going, and obviously worse that it's you filthy gets!
Pleased for Stan himself as it's an advancement in his career and any Rovers fan that isn't pleased for anything good that happens for Stan is a pillock.
Best of luck to the one and only Stan.
No animosity to Smith either really, did well for us and is only 55, got a good opportunity to do what he enjoys in building a club. No idea what went on at Rovers but he left us better than when he arrived so I can only be grateful and again, wish him all the best.

We've been talking to a head coach from the Championship and Grix fits the bill. Young, has done a great job at Fax and he played under Smith at Warrington for a few years.
Would be a very astute apppointment by Hull.

Very gracious post. I’m sure it will feel weird seeing Gene with a Hull badge, same as my brain not being able to compute Lee Crooks in Rovers gear for a time.
If it’s any consolation, it will be the person he’s followed here, not a calling after his Hull FC days!

Could be Lingard as well. Very good coach at Batley, and unlike Grix, Batley are never really going to trouble the top 2 in that league, so may see it as the next step in his career?

Has to be the best signing you have made for a long time.
