Quote: Sheephead "Which one? The Fonua disallowed try you can clear see Walkers hands all over the ball trying the strip it rather then cover, the out come of that was a 20 metre restart meaning they judge Fonua had lost the ball over the line.
'"

Seriously ! I don't know what you expect him to do with his hands when a 16 stone bloke is about to land on him, but I don't know how you can say he's stripping it from a still image. I would have had no qualms if Hull had won that game, but let's not get silly with still images and conspiracy theories. Enjoy the semi in 2 weeks and let's hope we don't have to debate whether a contentious decision either way decides it.

For me tonight was another game where we snatched defeat from victory by dumb rugby and poor discipline with ball in hand. Too many times have we tried to force the play in our end so when the inevitable error is made it's always in our 20. The passing tonight was for most parts so slow and laboured and very little in the way of dummy runners or running on to the ball at pace more often taking the ball stood still.
As much as I think Sneyd is a decent player he has shown very little since returning to the side. His ball control and kick options tonight were below average at best. There was no or very little direction from Sneyd tonight which was more disappointing then anything. Thought we looked sharper and more dangerous when we had Kelly & Connor in the halves to be honest.
Thought Hicks was pretty poor tonight and certainly didn't get anything off him tonight whereas Leeds got just about everything. That said even with seemingly Hicks giving Leeds majority of decisions we could have and should have won had the 17 on the field applied themselves better and not made stupid errors at crucial times and crucial areas.

We were sat 5 or 6 rows bebind Leon Pryce, so had a perfect view of Fonua and Griffin's no tries. Fonua definitely looked foot in touch and Griffin's arm appeared to go into touch as he grounded. In goal judge didn't have a better then the Ref or flagwaver and if they were dissallowed on his say so, it was the wrong decision. If FC had got a few 50/50's and rub of the green, we'd be celebrating a deserved win. Deffo win the semi.

Fonua's foot was on the line, Griffin's I couldn't see anything wrong and was stood in that corner. The in goal judge ruled it out, how he had a better view than the touch judge or ref is beyond me. Far too many mistakes from us, Leeds are nothing special and confident we'll be booking Hotels in a couple of weeks.

Watching the highlights it just looks to me that none of the refs have a clue whether is was a try or not so end up guessing. Which if that's the case is a pretty terrible way to potentially decide the outcome of a match. Highlight to me the need for video referees at all games.

Whatever happened to the rule of benefit of the doubt to the attacking team? Or is that just when certain teams score tries like that and are given. Guarantee Leeds scored either of those tries last night they are given

Quote: airliebird, runninglate! "Jesus you're boring at times ..team sports is unexplainable at times. Strange things happen at times..so many variables make it hard to pinpoint..
Since you know everything explain to me how mini and a few others have gone from being key men to liabilities within 3 games after months/years of consistency. How pros can't hold simple passes when unchallenged...now before you go off on 1 about man management etc and this is the bit I really want you to explain to me is given the things I've highlighted which you may want to pin on coach and could explain..how do you tally that up if it's a mindset thing with that Defence. Cos that Defence was pretty unreal at times. And in RL nothing is more honest and a truer marker of mindset than defence.. particularly goal line D'"

Jesus you're so predictably boring! It's a discussion forum, the coach talks about mindset then won't acknowledge it's a massive part of what he does/or doesn't do that underpins that in the players.
Players confidence changes, so when under pressure to win (because we'd lost 5 in 7 before last night) of course things change, have you never watched athletes make more errors, compounding them after failures previously, it's rife in sport and in the workplace.
Teamsport has loads of variables as you say, however there are knowns about how humans behave in certain circumstances and why, even those whom are very good at what they do are not exempt.

Defence is easier, it's a much simpler task comparatively from a decision making/skill POV, it's also less about you as an individual most of the time at any given moment.
You make a tackle and the attacking player invariably is heading toward you, yes trying to evade of course but more often it's far more about brute strength not skill, tackling technique and understanding what is the best type of tackle has completely gone from the game apart from a few players like Houghton. You also have assistance more often than not, there's strength in those numbers mentally. When attacking, weighing up options, catching, passing etc it's all individual, ALL of the time, no-one is there to assist you, there's someone to pass to or to catch the ball from but in that moment it is you and you alone, THAT is when confidence, pressure/high levels of stress come into play.
The mindset of not thinking about failure but about what are the primary goals, say each set of 5 minutes how to complete the tasks you're doing, reset and whatever went before is gone and you crack on to achieve your goals in the next 5 or however long you set your targets for.
it's the mindset of players from the preparation BEFORE the games, during training and how one approaches these scenarios making it automatic that you do x and not Y so you reduce the chances of failure.
The going back to basics isn't the issue here, the players can catch and pass, the problems are not mechanical or not having the mechanical ability to do x, it's mental and how players address that during games especially when under duress, THAT is the coaches job to ensure that players are mentally prepared so they can avoid scenarios where they simply make unforced errors/poor decisions/fall back to default behaviour more so than times when they're not under pressure.
Does that explain it so you can understand?

We made 3 more errors than Leeds, hardly significant I'd have thought.

It's when and where you make them though. Making an error on tackle 6 on the opponent's line is different to making it on tackle 1 in your own 10 metre area. Like I said earlier, leeds had 48 more PTB's than us or another 8 full sets (Actually nearer 10 as you rarely get tackled 6 times in a set)

I reckon it would have been given at the KC. When in doubt, just give the decision that pleases the home fans.
