| Good win last night. Bit of a stuttering first 20 but the Catalans defence was well organised on their line and there was a bit of a lack of confidence on our part. Not many SL teams rollover within 20 mins of the start of a game and we stuck at it despite their initial score. Thought the halves worked their way into the game and as Dave K said they look much better when working as a pair rather than glued to one side of the pitch or the other. Sneyd's kicking game was well up at the required standard as well which was a big improvement. The attacking shape improved as we went along and we moved the ball at pace most of the time. We still have a deep and static (almost ponderous) ball shift in us which needs to be eradicated. Biggest worry will now be the quality of the team we can muster against Cas.
As for the referee he'll want to forget that game. He and his 'team' missed countless offside players when Catalans kicked in the second half. He failed to police the ruck correctly and ignored goal line offside players. Not really a good enough performance for a SL referee.

| We won a very ugly match last night, The Cats at times where brutal and I expect a raft of charges come Monday. We dominated the match and should have had it put to bed by halftime. We gifted them points and failed so many time to add precious points when we had them rocking, we simply lacked punch in attack for long periods another kick into the corner it is then. I do know Radders was not too impressed last night with the overall performance and we play like we did in the first twenty against most teams and we will find our selves well behind the 8 ball. I am not knocking them last night in patches they did try and put things together, it was two points after all. But we can find oursleves back at the bottom by this time on Sunday and that is the point its going to be a long long season.
Most of us are honest we will end up at the bottom end of the division as climbing out of the hole is a hard task, not impossible but with the continuing injuries we alone seem to get week on week. Last nights game asked more questions then it answered, but happy with the two points and praying that this can be the catalyst to help us kick on.

| Highlights are up on the Catalans YouTube channel.
Solid first 20, got through our work and completed at 100%. Then we injected some pace in to our game and scored some lovely tries. How on earth the 3rd Catalans try was allowed to stand I'll never know, although Rankins pass to Lineham for his second looked 'suspect'.
I was more than happy to see Sneyd try something after the hooter in the 1st half, we bemoan a lack of adventure from our team all the time and if they can't do it at 22-6 up when can they? We attempt that another 100 times we don't concede from it, it was just bad luck.
All our forwards did well & Jordan Thompson's pace really does give us something through the middle. Nice to see Watts & Thompson trying to run down Escare for his try, never going to catch him in a month of Sunday's, but great to see the effort. Michaels pace at centre showed again why we need something similar on the left side.
All in all a decent win and good to see a pair of halves working together, plenty to work at but plenty to build on.

| Well pleased with the result (and the performance) last night. Quite a few candidates for MOM and I personally would have given it to Leon who is certainly proving he didn't come just to top up his pension pot. We really have to find a way to make sure Rankin starts every game and I would be happy to see him in one of the centre spots. Hope our injuries aren't as severe as they looked last night, although Gaz Ellis seemed to be really suffering when he went off. Lets see what the next few days bring.

Good summary. In regards to the first 20 mins we were a little bit hesitant but it surprises me how many people think that a SL side (some pundits' top 4 choice) will roll over that early in a game and be easy to score against. They were well drilled on their goal line defence and deserve credit for that. The work done in the first 20 went a long way to ensuring we were able to win the game fairly easily in the end.

| What was Pryce sin binned for? Was it dissent? This was another thing that annoyed me with Bentham last night; Henderson was often in the referees face and then not long after we get marched 10 yards and then Pryce sin binned.
Is there any doubt over the legitimacy of Talanoa's challenge on Escare? My view was a bit obscured but it almost looked like he slid in, feet first.

| Pryce knocked the ball away as it was been thrown to a Cats player.
Probably worth a yellow card at that stage of the game.

It was accidental. Talanoa caught Escare's lower back with his knee but it was because Escare tried to dodge his way out of the challenge. No way was it deliberate.

I think there is, they replayed it on Cats channel in slow motion. Would be a disaster if he copped a ban mind with Shaul, Lineham, Ellis, Green, Westerman all doubts and Whiting and Sa definitely out.

I don't think anyone expects a SL team to be easy to score against, but in a similar vein I don't expect a SL side to have 18 consecutive tackles from 40 yards and come away pointless. Yes, some of the Catalan defence was good and deserved credit, but some poor and predictable attacking play from us also contributed.

Probably happens fairly often. I'm not claiming we're a good attacking side at all but at the start of games when players are fresher it's not that unusual.

A team that had given the 2nd half display Catalan did last week are bound to be putting extra effort in.

I dont think it was the extra effort in defence by Catalans in the first 20 mins but more a poor Hull attack.
At no point did the Catalans defence become stretched or look desperate they handled a pretty poor Hull attack comfortably. We attacked like a team with no confidence for the first 20 mins. Also the Yeaman scoot from dummy half is only acceptable in our own 20 clearing the lines when under pressure imo it offers nothing other then a wasted tackle and breather for the opposition if done in their half of the pitch!
The 2nd and 3rd tries gave Hull the attacking confidence and you could visibly see the players suddenly want the ball more with Jordan Rankin starting looking like the full back we knew he could be.
Thought Rankin was very good linking into the attack and Lineham will hope he stays at fullback for the service. Thompson is really impressive with his pace and aggression in the middle and I like how Pryce controls the game in the middle.
Would still be tempted to find a place for Shaul on the wing in a similar vien to Russell at Warry and move Talanoa to centre or even Curtis Naughton if Talanoa gets a ban.
