| Quote: Phil O'Stein "I wouldn't frown, Wests are a great team to watch; excellent play around the ruck, fluent/unpredictable with a pretty solid and mobile pack. I'd say they have quite a few similarities to Wigans. However, a lot of their unpredictability is down to the mecurial freak that is Benji Marshall.'"
Agreed. Easily the most exciting side to watch either side of the world IMO.

| Please no more Hame !!!!
Use differently, what you mean less than 10mins x 2 per game ?
Devestating when runs onto the ball ? Must have missed that occasion - almost always stops at the contact - in complete contrast to Ogre, Manu, Ticks & Moa.
Utter waste of a quota spot, amazing how after 2 1/2 years of being way too heavy he slims down and starts tol ook useful - surely nothing to do with contract expiring ? Kingy did the same about 2 or 3 times I recall.
Just move on, please.

Meaning
Mostly you've actually just proved the point. O'Meley and Moa are the the only 2 players in our side who regularly drop back to actually RUN onto the ball. The rest mainly receive it standing or just ambling up. Manu is a freak and can push tacklers off anyway.

In all the time he's been at Hull FC I can count on one hand how many time he's had good games and devastating would never be a word I would associate with him. I can think of the Saints away game and then I start to struggle.
Next year will be interesting and I'm looking forward to watching him if he does go to Wigan to see how he performs because I've heard your argument about him not been used correctly and him possibly performing better under a different coach from a few people now but my opinion is that regardless of the coach were just not going to see the performances from him that we all want on regular basis, for his size he should be dominating opposition that doesn't happen enough imo and he comes across lazy at times.'"
For me fans have unrealistic expectations of him, they assume he should be steamroling the opposition week in week out which is nonsense. He is a big guy and should mean defenders expend a lot of energy bring him to ground. He regularly bumps off a defender and spins in the tackle. My point is go back to when he first joined he ran like an animal and gained penalties, he also gave a few away.
I just feel we have tried to turn him into something he isn't and he doesn't seem to have a clear defined role within the team. Playing him outwide doesn't work the way we move the ball so slowly. We'd be better off using him as a battering ram like Moa.
I think he will do really well at Wigan.

only works like that in the first year of their contract and if you pay them off before the season starts. Once they've played a competitive game for you any payoff counts over full length of contract.

Plenty of times I have seen him put shots on, not as frequent as others though. I have absolutely no doubt he will do well at Wigan and improve enormously.

brown paper bag job .
plus from memory he'd just signed a new 1 year deal. under those circumstances the previous years playing for warrington didnt count. he hadnt played a competitive game for them under his new deal so they could pay him off without it counting on cap.

So that would be the way round it if we really did want rid then (and obviously if he's willing to go). Give Obst an improved 1 year deal, pay it up in full before he plays a game.

Nope.
In fact I've just checked the latest copy of the Operational Rules and it looks like it no longer matters when you pay the player off...
Quote: mat "6.1.2 Where the proposed transaction is the termination of a Playing Contract with one of
the Club’s existing Players, as part of which the Club proposes to make a new
payment (in a lump sum or in instalments) to the Player that was not provided for in
his Playing Contract or other arrangements (and therefore was not previously
included in the calculation of his Salary Cap Value) (the “Termination Payment”),
then the information provided to the RSCM must include a proposed compromise
agreement between the Player and the Club (usually in the form of the RFL’s
standard compromise agreement as drafted from time to time) setting out full details
of the agreement reached, including full details of the Termination Payment.
6.1.3 On approval of a Termination Payment referred to in clause 6.1.2 above, the Player’s
original Salary Cap Value shall thereafter be disregarded for the purposes of
calculating his previous Club’s Aggregate First Tier Liability and/or Aggregate Second
Tier Liability'"
So that seems to say that as soon as you agree a release deal for a player he stops counting on your cap and starts counting on the cap of his new club - which makes far more sense than the previous situation.
EDIT: Actually, that just covers a payment not provided for in the player's contract. If a termination clause is built in the it will have already counted on the cap value of that player during his employment and immediately ceases to count once he leaves.

no it doesnt. all that says is that the value of the termination package is what counts on the slary cap rather than his original cap value. so say a player was on a 100k a yr deal with 2 yrs left. his cap value is 100k in each year. You agree to terminate his contract for a one off 50k payment. you would now take a 25k a year hit on you slary cap rather than the original 100k.

that doesn't make any sense when taking Kosh's quoted rules into account. the £50k would count once, as £50k.
