| Quote ComeOnYouUll="ComeOnYouUll"Then blame the shops and cafes for not being open. Hardly the fault of the organising committee.
You do kind of make a valid point. We need the evening economy in Hull to boom. Last week was excellent but I imagine this coming week it'll be very quiet around the city centre. We need more restaurants in the centre.'"
Surely they should be putting out a city wide apb - build and they will come!

| Plemty of national media coverage this week, this is a good article
[urlhttps://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/jan/08/hopes-for-sustaining-hull-cultural-momentum-rest-on-the-blade?CMP=share_btn_fb[/url
Quote The opening project, Made in Hull, in which light and sound installations were projected on buildings across the city every evening, brought in 342,000 visitors. It made Hull far and away the most visited attraction in the UK last week, beating both the British Museum and Tate Modern. '"

| I thought the event was nothing short of brillant. Both the spectacle and the organisation. I was immensely proud of the city. The work that has been done to improve the image of the city, both culturally and physically, with the improvements to the pavings, brickwork, lighting, planting and generally around the Fruit Market should be commended in my opinion.
I went to see Made in Hull for the second time on Saturday night with my Granddad. He came home beaming, and was very emotional during the Blitz scene.
Apparently, over 300,000 people visited Hull last week, with over 100,000 just on Saturday (according the Guardian). That has to be above even the wildest expectation for the first week. Yes, there was a touch of congestion, I'm not sure what you could do about it with that many people. In my experience (and I went on the busiest nights, opening and last night) it was completely manageable and there were ways around it if you wanted to find them.
Frankly I've not seen anything that has affected me so much since the 2012 opening ceremony. Well done to the organisers and the volunteers on an unquestionable success.

| Was there any need for the language near the bottom of the article in the Guardian?

| This is Hull - absolutely brilliant show. A couple of issues need to be adressed though.
1. We have a superb Park & Ride at Hessle which was closed in the evenings - we took an hour to get through the A63 to Princess Qua by which time we didn't have time to get round all the venues. We should be making the most of our assets.
2. No food/beverage stalls available particularly down Whitefriargate
But well done to all involved

They didnt want stalls clogging up the areas where thousands were walking. The litter problem would have been even worse. There are plenty of Chippy's, bars, cafe's - if they chose not to open then they have missed out on a lot of money as the ones that did open were rammed and takings will have been very high

Can't speak for the rest of the week, but the park and ride was definitely open on New Years Day for the fireworks.

I can't understand how it took you an hour to get from the P&R to PQ. We drove (had to, my granddad can't walk very far), and while we did queue over the flyover, it took us around 25 minutes from Brough to Trinity Square. That was at 6pm on Saturday.
I do agree though that if it wasn't (and it certainly was for the fireworks as I used it), it should really have been running through the week.

| I don't think the council could, in their wildest dreams, have imagined that it'd be as popular as it was, particularly on the opening and closing nights. Some teething troubles were to be expected.
Loved the light show, the shop fronts down Whitefriargate, The Deep & Humber Street. The rest I wasn't that enthralled with but each to their own.
Thought there may have been a set up for food/drink stalls like at Humber Street Sesh/Freedom Festival but not sure whether that's the council's doing or not.
Walked past a few cafes that were closed, if I'd been the owner I'd have made sure we were open.

| It's great to see our City getting some good coverage in the national media, (apart from The Sun's hatchet job).
Although there are things that are far from perfect I'm proud to say I'm from Hull. A lot of people who give Hull a kicking have a pre-conceived bias or have never stepped foot here.
