| Quote alexwest="alexwest"Despite the fact we beat london easily and the score flattered them,it wasn't a flowing performance at all,in fact if you take away the draw against warrington,we haven't played well at all.Thrashed by the dobbins in a friendly, ordinary against london, even worse against salford,I wonder what the feeling would be if westwood had kicked the last minute conversion.Ifeel so depressed and am beginning to wonder if the warry result is papering over the cracks this early in the season.'"
Christ we got beat by Salford who played well and we played poorly but had Yeaman passed to Briscoe when he made the break, had we not lost the scrum and Lynch not given the ball away on the 1st tackle 10M from Salfords line it could have been a lot different. We were poor there is no denying it but jeez we are only 3 games into a new season after having a whole new set up at the club and a new Coach who has to instil into the squad he inherited and try and erase all that was bad and ingrained into the players over the last 4 years.
This isnt going to happen overnight and we will no doubt see what happened last night were the players reverted to last season when under pressure and went away from the game plan.
Gentle I believe is a very good Coach but a miracle worker he aint so give them time, we have seen some encouraging signs so far but it will take time to get them to be consistant and be rid of their previous failings and habits.

Have to agree, this is what he said last night.
The Black and Whites also handed a Super League debut to young prop Josh Bowden after losing Sam Moa to suspension and Joe Westerman to injury following last week’s match against London, but Gentle said there were no excuses from his side.
“Nobody is blaming anyone and I know these blokes pretty well now. It was an uncharacteristic performance and the closer we got to the finish line the more panic set in with us,” he said.
“I didn’t put our younger guys back on toward the end because I thought having our senior guys out there would bring some clam heads to the team, but it did pan out that way.”

on the flip side, we have a great left side attack but its not used to its potential. as for the right it just isnt used at all, the forwards where handicapped by lack of rotation this made us a tired outfit and tired blokes make mistakes and give away pens.
We lost, and next weekend cant come quick enough to put things right!'"
Now I'm not saying that it is the case because I didn't go or listen, so I can't comment on the nature of his performance, but I can't help but wonder if it's because he's already being asked to do too much with 80 minutes most weeks. I personally think by doing so it's always a matter of time before his standards slip, it's too demanding a role to see otherwise. Swain was a freak, far from the norm.

| was houghton who was penalised for not standing square that allowed salford to win the game. should he have been replaced earlier? i think so, nicklas at hooker may have given us a bit more zip at the ptb going into the last quarter

i agree that this is the proper and grown up reaction to the game. for me Gentle is in the unfortunate position that he's coming into hull in a time that we have heard all the excuses before (R. Agar and P. Sharp) and any over reaction is due to fear of 3 more seasons of under achieving. we allow our selves to be swept along by the Hull fc PR team and we start to think there is a quick fix. Not that i have a problem with the Hull PR approach, they have got to do that we need people through the gates.

| Still not sure how we lost the game in all honesty our defence in the middle was superb, we must have restricted them to their own 40 whenever they were asked to clear their line.
Our goal line defence was good too as we looked in control whenever they spread the ball which looked fancy without doing much a early kick and a sensational offload opened us up in the first half.
Think last night will have been a lesson learnt in sub management for Gentle as you could see Houghton was out on his feet in the last 10 and was no surprise that he gave the penalty away for not getting square.
Penalties were the killer last night though and its not as if they were penalties on tackle 1 or 2 they seemed to always be on tackle 5 again something what I think you can put down to fatigue.
With the ball our forwards got us up the pitch no problem but when we got into their 20 we just lacked some composure and seemed to go back to passing it along the line just for the sake of it without any real structure in place. We need to get McKinnon involved on the left to create the extra man.
