Whilst it could be argued, and rightly so that cheating the cap saved them from relegation he took over at Wigan when they were in a dire mess. The worst since they were relegated in the early 80s. They have progressed since then steadily and whilst there is no silverware they are considerably better placed than they were.
Nobby is also the man who guided the Bulls to several Grand Finals, which is something they have failed to do since.
I think he cops the flack because of what he didn't achieve at international level. But lets be honest he didn't have a lot to work with.
Its just the way of the RL fan I think.
People rate Tony Smith, yet forget his record at Huddersfield where he was relegated. Yet they slag Jon Sharp who took Huddersfield from bottom of the table fodder to play offs and also Challenge Cup final apperance. That being for the first time in 40 odd years I believe.
So I guess success is looked at from different perspectives. I personally would have him at Hull even if it was just to assit Agar and develop him into a great coach.
I can't see him going to Celtic who may not even be here come the end of next season.
I think what Wigan have done with Nobby and Huddersfield did with Sharp is recognise that to get to the next level a new man with new ideas is required. Something we have failed to do by recruiting from within. I just hope like everyone else that Agar proves us all wrong. ( Apart from you Wolfie who I know has great faith in RA.)
