All I can say is I'm glad I'm a non smoker now. sounds too much of a hassle having a cig now, just wish the drinking would get banned, less having to stand up for people frequenting the loo's for a pee which I find most annoying, so you non-smoking beer drinkers please consider other peoples feelings as well.

The smoking ban was one of the more sensible pieces of government legislation in recent years and long overdue. To inflict cancer causing chemicals on other people ought to be illegal in any enlightened society.

And as for your comparison with walking along Anlaby Road, last time I checked Anlaby Road wasn't an enclosed space.

The point of anti-smoking legislation was to ban it in [ienclosed spaces[/i. If I drove my car into your living room and left the engine running, you'd feel a little aggrieved. If I walked into a pub with my BBQ and proceeded to cook myself a pound of sausages and a couple of steaks, you'd be upset.

The fact is, you can't compare the effects of passive smoking in enclosed spaces with walking down a road with cars on it. Unless you have your mouth taped to one of the exhausts.

But passive smoking doesn't exist.

I've checked a number of different sources and there are a number of studies on the subject. Some say passive smoking is a greater risk, and some say they are about the same. The point remains, however, that passive smoking is easy to stop without bringing the country to its knees. If you banned any activity that caused pollution immediately, we'd be back in the dark ages.
