Quote cod'ead="cod'ead"You must watch a different game to most people. Do you ever watch what Horney does in defence?
I've never considered Richard Horne to be the brightest player on the park and one of his major failings is he is an all-round player. When he finds a gap, invariably he hasn't the pace to finish his break. Whiting is similar in that respect, yet he doesn't seem to be castigated in the same way. His long-kicking game is crap but that's been known for years, so why put him into the position of kicking long?
He has proved a great servant to the club, he still has a lot to offer on the field, full-back would be an ideal posititon, given his skills, limitations and all-round commitment. That's not sentiment talking, that's watching his game and wondering who we'd replace him with given what's available and affordable. Coming back from a serious neck injury and diabetes takes a certain level of mental toughness - a quality that cannot be bought. That comes with a love of the game and more importantly a love of the team you are playing for.
For my money, Rich Horne can still bring something to the game, if for nothing else, he can show upcoming players that it's not all about how many tries you score or how many tackles you break or make. It's about how you can contribute to making the TEAM a functioning unit. That even after suffering personal setbacks, you can still go out there and perform and more importantly, help others perform at a better level.
Every SL team has at least one Richard Horne in their squad, some of us just seem to be more inclined to dwell on his negatives than any positives he may bring.'"
Absolutley spot on. Horne is a full back, isn't it a coincidence that our last two wins have come with him at 1? Also the good friday game McKinnon went off then Horne went to 1 and we got three trys. He is a better player when he can join the line and his one on one tackle on Mika proves he is a good enough tacKler. Safe under the bomb, not the fastest but Wellens, Briscoe and Webb are not but they have had good careers at fullback. IMO.
