Agreed,

I'd liek to see more variation on kicking in general play. All our wingers (Briscoe, Lineham and Crookes) have pace to run onto a chip over the defensive line or a shallow kick in mid field.

Our bombs annoyed me yesterday, why kick and keep kicking to a winger who also plays FB and is good under the hall ball when they have a small winger on the other side and a FB who can be poor under th high ball.

Quote: berro's best mate "cockayne would still score trys for wire....... miles cheaper than monoghan too.. all im saying is, with good ball ie from good halves, anyone can score tries.... ade gardner did it for years off the back of a good centre!! we need more than a top winger, we need a top 7 to feed a winger for a start, get a good 7 in, and even rob danby could get you 10-15 a season'"

There you go again.

How do you know he would be cheaper? You don't, its pure speculation.

How do you know Monoghan didnt come to Wire on the cheap to ressurect his career here after his well documented "social" incident?

For the record, if it wasnt his association with rovers, many on here would not have the poor opinion of Cockayne as they do. If it was purely on Rugby ability and passion whilst playing I dare say there would be a few who would be suggesting he shouldbe signed by us

How did we get our fingers burnt with Blacklock and Sing? Both Aussie test players. Is it their fault they played under coaches they didn't utilise expansive play? Neither Blacklock or Sng really let the team down yet both were scapegoats for those not willing to see the lack of effort being put in ona regular basis by established team members.

Regarding Briscoe, in the modern game, I think he is an exceptional player. Pace, Power, Strength, can finsih, comes looking for the ball, and not bad at defending. What more do you want out of a winger?'"

dear god, if you think ben cockayne and justin carney etc are on even par regards wages with briscoe, then your deluded... theyd walk to hull fc, would you rather be playing at cas and wakey instead of us? if thats the case within RL, then we are fooked, anyways...cockayne couldnt get a gig anywhere is SL and carney was released from the nrl so i recon theyd be cheap...... as of rthese 2 ozzie test players we had, my point exactly, they were good, but we paid top wages and hardley used them to there potential....
we have far greater issues than needing to have a top winger, dont get me worng, id keep briscoe in a heartbeat BUT we need better players were it really counts, ie a top 7, and some proper forwards, pitts ,omeley, lynch etc are just not going to cut it for one reason or another...... our direction is an utter joke, we are cluless in an opponents 20, wether thats down to cioaching i dont know, but considering weve been pants over the past few seaosn, it seems to me that the players have to take responsibility as which ever coach weve had in charge its just the same old tosh..

Our bombs annoyed me also. Not so much because of who we were kicking to but because we rarely put the catcher under any pressure.

Having said that, Holdsworth was clearly not 100% last night and some way below the level he normally plays at.

If I was going to give any form of agrument againt your view Dave (which I agree with) Holdsworths Bombs against Cas were almost unplayable (high, spiralling etc). however, once Murphy had taken the first two, we shouldhave tried something else.

id bet he's earning top dollar still... and if anyone thinks that an ex army thug who couldnt get a game in top level rugby for a year earns more than joel monoghan, a top nrl and state of origin winger, then your mistaken, whatever joel did, id bet my last pound thet he earns alot more than cackayne....

do you recon it was something to do with the fact that murphy has played full back in the past that he was safe as houses under the highball??, or the fact that clare was utter pants for cas last week???

Why am I deluded? I have not suggested anyone is being paid more or less than anyone else. You have. You must have delusions of players salaries, because like you, I don't know what Briscoe, Cockayne or Carney earn.

O'meley was released from an NRL club, do you reckon he would be cheap?

Cockayne recently signed a new contract at Wakey, which I would guess was an improvement on his initial one.

The direction of the team is a joke, agreed. Pearson we are lead to beleive tried to sort this unsuccessfully through Chase (personally I think we had a lucky escape there) and Prince. It appears we put all our eggs in too few baskets.

agree there, the signing of galea really worried me when it was announced, why we signed a guy well past his best is beyond me, desperate times etc.. as they say
i still cant get round the recruitment of jay pitts though.... i just dont get it, it was a complete bolt out the blue, he couldnt get in leeds first team squad, so what makes the powers that be at FC seem to think he'd offer us anything? and how much had gentle seen of him? in my opinion, not a lot......
unless he was bought of the back of a good game for leeds vs fc for the 21's???????

I think Pitts is a decent squad player, providing his salary matches that squad status.

agree on Galea though, 2 years ago and he'd have been a good signing as he used to cause havoc near the line, now he's way past his best, and I'd honestly had rather seen Aspinwall or McGoldrick retained if that's all the options we had.

Jay Pitts has been a good addition to the squad IMO, been impressed with him. Aggressive tackler and good pair of hands.

Agree about his defensive contribution. I still don't think he's big enough to play prop though, and dominated far too easily to make the required impression in attack. The fact that Bowden already looks more of a handful than him backs this up IMO. I think I'd sooner see Johnson in the team at present.
