Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?: |
|
| If Shaul was injured late on, then Rankin's move to fullback would not have been planned.
So Feka, Thomson, Hadley, Kent and Crooks for 4 subs positions.
Picking Crooks was an odd choice, but maybe Radford didn't expect us to throw away 20+ points,
so he was picked to give him a bit more game time in a match we should have won.
If Shaul had been fit then Crooks wouldn't have played.
Pure speculation of course, but no worse than suggesting Agar's methods are now being used.

Squads aren't improving at all. Overall in SL they're getting worse. Only Saints and Salford really improved.

| Quote: ChrisH "Not by playing all of them. Clearly not all will be good enough. You'll find out how players are likely to go by bringing one or two in and having the support of experienced players around them. HTW playing with the rest of the 19's against men albeit from the championship isn't giving him a chance. Playing him behind a decent and experienced pack with an experienced partner would tell you a lot more.'"
Exactly right. And the bit about HTW can also be applied to Miller in preseason. He was always going to compare unfavourably to Horne/Rankin/Heremaia when he was the one playing behind a pack of teenagers whilst the others got to play behind Ellis & co. Similar story for Arundel, too.

| Friday, will be an interesting test for Radford.
How will the players react, after an abysmal performance?
Also, the team selection will be interesting.

Huge test, Radford has made a few mistakes already this year, will he learn from them and get it right.
Lose the next two (which they is a good chance IMO) and Pearson might not have much of a choice as our season will be practically over.

| It was a very poor appointment from day one.
Radford will walk before being pushed.

| Lose Friday and the gates start to drop in fact I reckon we will struggle to get over 10k as things stand now. Radford may or may not be the right man for the job, but yet another sacking will do this and next season no good fans will leave in droves.
We have been unlucky with injuries and suspensions, we have to ride it out because there is no other way now.

Pre-season was very poor with hammerings at Bradford & humiliation against Featherstone.
Defeats to Wire and Saints acceptable and for me surprisingly close for a average SL side so luckily we played them early.
Bradford very poor side, Catalan started the season badly leading up to the Hudds game and that could have being very easily a draw.
Then strange team selection which resulted in a unused sub against Widnes and a centre on the bench 0-7 defeat on your home turf.
Yes I blame Radford and the fact as promised he hasn't changed the culture at the club, injuries are part and parcel of the game just ask Betts.

| If we lose to Saford on Friday, then get knocked out of the cup by them its hard to see where our next win is coming from.
We are already in that part of the season (starting with the Bradford game) when we were supposed to pick up points to help us through the difficult period later on and we have 2 points out of 6.
The injuries are not Radford's fault, although his curious team selection, Agaresque use of substitutes and the way he has handled some of the players clearly are.
Getting rid of him mid-season won't be easy simply because who is there out there to replace him with?
However if we fail to make the play-offs then he has to go at the end of the season IMO. If what Gentle achieved was unacceptable I don't see why Radford should be allowed to get away with delivering less.

| Lots of knee jerking going on here. We have lost 4 games by a total of 24 points. Two were games we weren't expected to win, one was away to a very decent and unbeaten team, and as awful as the Widnes game was, every coach we have had in my time watching the team has overseen games like that. Not to mention our pack has been ravaged by injury and suspension.
Radford has made mistakes, I'm not an expert on coaching, if I was I wouldn't be typing this, but I can see that there are elements of our team selection that are not working. However there are also things that he has improved. We need a big response next week though, a loss to Salford and it's looking like a long season all of a sudden.

| The guy has coached 6 games of Super League. The game previous to his first (just seven games ago) was lost by 76 points to 18 under the previous coach Peter Gentle. The team that day was ...
Shaul
Crookes
Horne
Yeaman
Briscoe
Holdsworth
Miller
Watts
Houghton
Johnson
Ellis
Tickle
Westerman
Lynch
Heremaia
Green
Pitts
The players in bold have played at least one game this season. Both Miller and Pitts played in that embarrassment and Heremaia was at replacement hooker. So maybe Radford has attempted to change a few things around from this recent humiliation as he starts out his tenure as coach. I haven't agreed with all of his selections and would like to see Heremaia back on the bench and Miller playing. When we have all of our forwards available this year's pack looks miles stronger than the one above and has looked good at times this year. The backs were weak last year and are weak now there can be no doubt about that especially after last Sunday.
I have no idea whether Radford will make it as our coach or not but I don't blame him whatsoever for having his own ideas and trying to change things to prevent such a shambles occurring again. It's not going to be turned around after a few games and to call for yet another change of coach now is ridiculous. Maybe we should start offering our coaches 5 game rolling contracts.

| I'm not calling for Radford to go. Yet.
I can stand us losing but can't stand players not seeming to care or try like against Huddersfield. We were led to believe that when Radford was appointed we would never again see the sort of capitulation we witnessed on Sunday. We were told the players wanted him as coach and would play for him. However Sunday was one of the most despairing performances I have ever seen from a Hull FC team. If he can sort it great. If he can't he should go at the end of the season.

We lost a game in appalling conditions because we missed opportunities to score 20+ points. Disappointing, yes, but despairing???
The only despairing thing was leaving after the hooter had blown to find disorganised chaos getting out of Walton street car park because of the early leavers.
