| Quote: mikegreen673 "I personally think Richard Horne would be the best full back in the country if were ever brave enough to put him there. Not going to happen this season as Reardon will play there now i guess.
Not creative as a half back but his running game would suit full back far better. great catcher of ball and would be running at broken lines as opposed to fully set defence when he's at 6
I'd like to see 2 different half backs from whiting/lee/washbrook/berrigan instead of horne and thorman'"
We tried R.Horne at FB a few seasons ago and his game was pretty much the same as it is now but with a slow ball return.
For me he is an out and out 6. The main problem as i've raved on about time and time again is you can't expect players to create when their team mates don't give them options. With space to move Richard Horne is one of the most devastating Stand Offs in this country.
Once we stop playing with an acting half back, two distributers and 10 props we might get to see some effective plays.

| In addition i believe if Horne had been playing full back he would now be regarded as the best ever hull number one in front of kemble, keegan, woods etc
if we'd signed top quality half backs in his career to go along with the top drawer 9's such as jackson, swain and berrigan we would have a trophy cabinet bulging at the seams. all the great sides have the spine of the team (1, 6, 7, 9 ) laden with top quality
withers, harris, deacon, lowes
wellens, martyn, long, cunningham
webb, maguire, burrows, diskin
hampson, edwards, gregory, mcdermott

| Horne has never been creative, he often puts good kicks in and the odd through the gap pass but, he is a support player and a great runner of the ball hence why he scores a fair few tries, but on the topic of Thorman, hes not a leader or organiser but i think his kicking game is good and a kick is as good as its chase and in the last few games the chase hasnt been thier but personally if we really want to go far in this comp we need a top class SH simple as but geting one isnt that simple isit, also replacing G.Horne wouldnt go a miss.

| When the team started making inroads into Rovers' half, then Throman was able to dictate as Dobson did early on. I don't remember seeing Dobson in the last 10-15 minutes because they were on the back foot.
We simply made too many mistakes. We started by giving a penalty away, dropped the ball in silly positions early in the tackle count and were slow at the process of playing the ball (I mean the part where the player rolls it back, not the whole trying to stand up with four blokes on your back part). I think we finally learnt in the second half that no-one was going to get pinged for lying on or for being off-side and played the ref far better.
If I was to take a plus out of the game it would be how fit we looked at the end of the game. If we can just stop dropping the bloody ball.... And I hope Hall gets another chance - I know he had a bit of a 'mare but he is helping us out in a position he's not natural in.

I would love to think that it could be us he is lining up for next season
nz.sports.yahoo.com/nrl/news/art ... eing-storm
It is believed the deal would only be for the remainder of this season, with a more permanent deal - possibly in England - to be sorted out over the coming weeks

| I thought Thorman went okay, first half he struggled but our forwards were making no yardage, second half he looked much better when we were going forward.

| in my opinion thorman is a gonna at the end of the season...he has been signed as a stop-gap....his ball in hand is not that great but his kicking game is ok, better than what we had last year, unless dykes was playing...we need an organiser and thorman isnt the answer to our problems im afraid...cant see us signing anyone from the uk, due to the fact athat there aint that many good 7's who are available....so its down under we go, hopefully signing someone with quality...any thoughts on half-back signings??? realistic ones only though please...as we aint going to be signing lockyer,marshall,cronk,thurston,kimmorley.....

I really hope so. He is useless with ball in hand and his kicking game is very hit and miss.

I think your assessment of Thorman is probably a fair one. I still would like to see a few more games with him developing his partnership with Horne behind a team that isn't coughing up the ball so easily before I can fully agree though. I also agree with another poster who said that Horne and Thorman are playing left and right side of field which makes that partnership harder to develop - so maybe I won't see any improvement there after all.
