| We failed to sign a scrum half and that is the one signing all of us could see we needed, the lack of that one signing I feel is going to cast a long shadow over this season. This will put immense pressure on the club to succeed, this more then any other season we have to be pushing for honours as far too many hopes have been raised to fever pitch.
It looks bad at the moment but I always look at things after six games and you get a better idea of how the land lies. I have thought if we got four points from the first four games we where doing ok.
We are not at even two games yet

we scored a try!
seriously though it is 1 game!
no doubt you and a few others are already fearing the worst! a loss at headingley, where our record is quite poor isn't going to define our season!

| I think before anyone leaves your lot, you should see what happens against Bradford next week, a team you beat twice last year including a total mullering.
TBF though Leeds have not lost an opening round game since early 2000's i think, but i did think you would have nicked it, extremely unlucky to lose Ellis before the game as i think much of your play may depend on him leading from the from. How does it look for him anyway?

He was a baffling signing, along with giving O'Meley another year, there must be a real lack of available options for us to have made these signings.
Maybe they will prove me wrong in coming weeks, but I fear they won't, along with Holdsworth, we've got a Waitrose budget and bought a Primark team I am afraid.

| Bit doom and gloom all this. I'm a Leeds fan (sorry, born and raised there) but I have a lot of family in Hull and always keep an eye on what's going on there.
My take is this:
You've played 1 game. You did this with a much changed side in it's first competitive run out, away from home against what is, let's face it, the most settled squad in the league. And one that's trying to peak a bit earlier than most for a WCC in February. You then lost one of the world's best forwards during the warm up. For all that, your lads showed plenty of spirit to turn round level at half time. Ran out of steam a bit, and I thought we were the better side and you were hanging on a touch, but I'd also bet Leeds are a bit further on in the fitness stakes (in view of the above mentioned WCC, and given that I think most conditioning coaches accept you can't peak all season) which will have had an effect.
I think there are still question marks around the Hull revolution. Most notably, where does that "x factor" come from - replacing Manu with Ellis is not a straight swap, Ellis is, in my view, a better player all round, but Manu is a game breaker and I wonder where that will come from. YOu need to see how the halves gel, still not clear, and finally I'm not convinced by Shannon McDonnell yet. But all those are still questions to be answered, positive or negative. I don't think Friday answered them conclusively in the negative.
I expect Hull to be one of 7 teams sniffing around for the top 4 places (Leeds, Wire, Saints, Pies, Dragons, Hudds) at the end of the season, and probably to finish stronger than you start.
And if what I hear about investment in the academy is true, then Pearson's revolution shouldn't be judged after one season, never mind one game. Keep the faith yer miserable gets.

He's only saying what lots of our fans have been saying all along. Let's see what the next few weeks bring before we start losing faith.

| Considering we were missing Ellis,Tickle & Watts, I thought our defence was very solid for 60 minutes
I've been impressed with Gentle's coaching ability in the defensive structure of the team,
but I feel we need to do a helluva lot of work in our passing speed, and eliminate Houghton's taking a step. before passing.
Other NRL coaches who coached in ESL, have improved the passing speed of their current squad,Maguire(Wigan)Brown (Giants) even HKR's passing speed at dummy half, and their general passing is faster than ours.
I hope Gentle can improve this, and successfully make the transition from Assistant coach to a Head Coach.
