Everybody seems to be spilt on the Whiting, Hall debate. I still see it as a weak area for us and one I would be looking to strengthen next term but for now I think having the 2 of them fighting for that position can only be a good thing. Whiting gets the nod this week but it is from far a closed book for Hall.

Quote: Big Dave T "I just find it intolerable that Agar plays him FB last year and ruins his confidence and drops him and then plays him on the wing to cover this season and drops him following a terrible team performance. (and poor inside sliding defence)

I've said right since pre-season that Hall should be our left centre and to be fair he's looked top drawer at right centre. Knee jerk reaction from Agar that i dont support one bit.'"

I think top drawer is an overstatement. Top drawer should be reserved for the top players. Hall will get more chances, he has been dropped in part because of his poor performance Friday gone but more likely because we have a specialist winger returning. I agree Yeaman hasn't been head and shoulders above either of them but Agar seems to prefer to play his current/former internationals which has some credence.

He's had two games and Whiting has had three, no real difference there. Hall needs a run at centre but selection also goes by what happens in training and none of us on here know how well either of these players are training.

Hally has looked dangerous everytime he gets the ball this season and has a great try to game ratio. That's what i was meaning by top drawer. He is still our main attacking back that can do something special out of nothing. That lack of structure sometimes appears to put fear into Agar.

Got to disagree, I think Hall is a good player however for me that is as far as it goes, his defence is still suspect and to be special you have to have both offence & defence nailed on..Hall has been given a lot of opportunities the last few years yet it is the same thing that lets him down defence.I am not sure top clubs would trip over themselves to sign Hall, however I think most top teams would offer Whiting a contract due to his range of skills.Between them both Whiting wins hands down.

With no quota places likley to be avaiable I think that will be very hard, our English centres are as good if not better than any other SL club IMO.

Think that is why Wigans are better and stronger etc 4/5 are overseas players.

He certainly hasn't looked dangerous every time he gets the ball.

We are lucky we have competition for places unlike previous seasons. If Hall was in and Whiting out we would be having the same discussion but in reverse.

Long may it continue as well icon_smile.gif

Will agree to disagree. Whiting would struggle to get a contract at a top club other than for cover and if Calderwood wasn't injured at the start of this term i dont think Whiting would have been in our 17 yet.

Some of the real RL genius players over the years have had woeful defence. I agree, Hall isn't the best but i've also seen enough of him since been loaned to Widnes to suggest that he is working hard to sort that out. Getting dropped for things that weren't your fault isn't going to help. I think there's more to it that simply his performance.

It apeared to me that Hall was made somewhat of a scapegoat by Agar and earlier to a degree by Peter Sharp.

Hall enjoyed his time at Widnes , playing in an attacking side certainly suited his style and he came back with renewed confidence.

He tried his best at when selected in that position by Agar but paid performances when it was not all his own fault.

However it would appear that some of you know exactly what happens at training sessions at Hull Kingston Rovers. icon_smile.gif

Some of the tries were his fault IMO, especially in the first half. But it would be wrong to single him out as other tries were the fault of others.

As for Whiting he has played pretty well in any position he's been asked to play this season (Crusaders apart) and therefore maybe it is his extra durability that has won him a place for this game. After all some appear to be saying that it is unfair to judge Hall playing out of position yet Whiting is clearly playing well enough in most positions he is asked to. Maybe the coach sees that flexibility as a plus to have in his team.

FWIW Hall will get more chances for sure but it is up to Hall himself to improve his defence to the extent that no one talks about it as a weakness for him any more.

Maybe not enough..hopefully if he gets a fair whack he can kick on, however his defence will have to improve as players like Senior will have a field day.
