You're actually preaching to the choir on that one. The only thing that differs is our definition of who constitutes an improvement over Horne.

| I think this attitude is another hangover from Agar's tenure. We've become so accustomed to being told that it is purely down to your halfbacks to provide all of the sides organisation, attacking structure, creativity, and direction, that we're starting to forget that it's all a load of old codswallop. What's closer to the truth is that any coach worth his salt will provide most of that himself with the systems he gets the team as a whole playing to instead of relying on a particular player to do it for him and dig him out of a hole. If we've got the coaching appointment right it would make us a better, more creative attacking side even before adding Seymour to the mix.

| Quote: Kosh "No player should be guaranteed a starting spot.
If the halves stay as they are then I fully expect us to start with Seymour and Horne. After that it should depend on form and injuries. If some of the less believable rumours prove true and we sign Chase then I expect us to start with him and Seymour in the halves.
I'm just chuffed to have options there for the first time in years.
I have conflicting views on Horne. He has been a great servant to Hull FC and a great pro, and a great guy as well. I find it difficult to be overly critical of Horne, however I've always been of the opinion that he doesn't have the necessary complete skill sets to make us as fluent in attack as we need to be in order to finish top of the tree.
Unless further signings are made then I agree with you it will be Horne and Seymour starting in the halves. Whilst I've heard we have made an improved offer for Chase I just dont see how we could afford to have someone like Horne as back up when we will have Ellis as well.

would that stop Horne kicking straight to the fullback, or trying the drop off inside ball that hasn't worked for the bulk of his career?
a good coach will put Horne at Centre, Loose Man or Fullback.

| Quote: UllFC "Could copy and paste comments from the past 3 years to sum up Friday's performance. The effort was there, the defence (one or two individual lapses aside) was good and overall it wasn't as bad a performance as it could have been against such a strong side.
However the lack of creativity and kicking game was again atrocious. Far too many times we got near the line and ended up with a poor kick, or end up throwing it to the nearest man (who is stood still) and expect them to beat 4 men and score.
the kicking yet again had 'radar' on it and Hodgson was lapping the bombs up and barely had to move.
If we are to be successful next season than Seymour has to be the first quality, fit half-back we have had since Cooke...or we will still be around the 7th/8th place mark.'"
Would the new Coach sign Seymour?

Well, yes, because a decent coach would recognise that Horne will never have a good long kicking game and keep him away from it. I've always said I can never blame Horne for not having a strong kicking game, I blame those who insist on him receiving the ball on the last tackle. We have/have had better options, we just don't use them (or at least enough).
The drop off inside ball is a 'tactic' that I have seen used far too often by every hooker and halfback we've had for the last 5 seasons. So again, it's an instruction from higher up.

| Seymour and Horne as half backs will be the best pairing weve had for years. Dont understand the negativety tbh as Horne had his best game for ages and he was organising which is not his role. Stick an organiser next to him and Horne will become more consistent as he should be able to play his natural game. The kicking game will be based around Seymour and Heremaia which again will be a big improvement. I feel quite positive about next season with these two new lads on board and that doesnt include Ellis who whould go well when he gets his chance and with a good super league off season.
